  • Publication number: 20240103301
Abstract: A head-mounted display may include a display system and an optical system in a housing. The display system may have displays that produce images. Positioners may be used to move the displays relative to the eye positions of a user's eyes. An adjustable optical system may include tunable lenses such as tunable cylindrical liquid crystal lenses. The displays may be viewed through the lenses when the user's eyes are at the eye positions. A sensor may be incorporated into the head-mounted display to measure refractive errors in the user's eyes. The sensor may include waveguides and volume holograms, and a camera for gathering light that has reflected from the retinas of the user's eyes. Viewing comfort may be enhanced by adjusting display positions relative to the eye positions and/or by adjusting lens settings based on the content being presented on the display and/or measured refractive errors.

  • Publication number: 20220127169
Abstract: REM systems for disinfecting water, which includes a tank, a membrane anode, a cathode, and a conductive contactor, is disclosed. The conductive contactor is in direct contact with the membrane anode. The conductive contactor is in electrical communication with the cathode. The REM systems can further contain an inlet and an outlet for supplying water into the tank and removing water out of the tank respectively. The membrane anode includes a carbon-based material. In the most preferred embodiment, the membrane anode includes layers of activated carbon fiber cloth (ACFC). The membrane anode functions as both the anodic electrode that produces electrochemical reaction and the membrane filter. In one preferred embodiment, the membrane anode generates reactive oxygen species from water oxidation reaction that is effective in disinfecting pathogens in water. Methods of making and using the REM systems are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9914556
Abstract: This invention is related to a bottle structure. At least an embedded slot is disposed on a bottle body. A positioning member is disposed on the opening of the embedded slot. The inner edge of the positioning member projects toward the inner side of the opening of the embedded slot to form a stop edge. An embedded fixing part may coordinate with a spirally fixed element to lock the bottle body to a bicycle body. An embedded block of the embedded fixing part is embedded into the embedded slot of the bottle body and against the stop edge of the positioning member. A lug connected the bottom of the embedded block is located against positioning bumps disposed on inner edges of the positioning member to stably install the bottle body on the bicycle body.

  • Publication number: 20140204898
Abstract: A fast device discovery protocol with a high success rate for device-to-device (D2D) communication in LTE-A networks is proposed. With the proposed protocol, device discovery is done by monitoring a randomly transmitted beacon from other devices within a pre-defined period. In one embodiment, an eNB receives scheduling requests from D2D UEs and in response allocates a distributed uplink resource for random access of beacon transmission by the D2D UEs. The distributed resource is dynamically allocated based on the number of requesting D2D UEs, a discovery period, and a target discovery probability to minimize the required resource.

  • Publication number: 20120330935
Abstract: Systems and methods for mediation of content-related services are provided. Information about a user may be stored in memory. Such information may be used to identify availability of the user to travel on certain days. A search is formulated based on the identified availability of the user. Each search result is evaluated to derive a user-specific value. The search results are thereafter ranked based on the user-specific value calculated. A user-specific display of travel data is then generated for presentation to the user.

  • Patent number: 7163356
Abstract: A tension leg platform is secured to the sea floor with a plurality of tendons, each of the tendons being in tension due to buoyancy of the platform. The tendons are made up of joints of pipe secured together to define a hollow interior sealed from entry of sea water. A lower section of the joints of pipe of each of the tendons has smaller inner and outer diameters and greater wall thicknesses than an upper section of the joints of pipe. Bulkheads are sealed within the interior of the upper and lower sections of the joints of pipe of each of the tendons. The bulkheads are spaced apart from each other along the lengths of the upper and lower sections of the joints of pipe to define separate compartments sealed from each other.
