  • Patent number: 5265404
Abstract: A grass cutting unit with a reel rotatably mounted between side plates has bearing assemblies which extend inwardly of the side plates and a reel shaft shorter than the separation of the side plates. After removing one bearing assembly, the reel can be withdrawn transversely for maintenance. There is no necessity for open-ended slots in the side plates. A drive assembly is demountable as a unit with one bearing assembly. The opposite bearing assembly incorporates a spring loaded plunger to pre-load taper roller bearings in both assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5197267
Abstract: A grass cutting unit with a conventional cutter reel has forward and rear rollers mounted on a common, pivotable, carriage. By adjustable pivoting of this carriage the height of cut can be adjusted while maintaining strict parallelism between the rollers. A knife or groomer roller is cantilevered in front of the forward roller and is supported on the common roller carriage.

  • Patent number: 4878338
Abstract: A grass cutting machine has two forward cutting units (24) and one rear central unit (46). The mechanism at, for example, the margin of a golf green, provides a time delay between lifting or lowering of the front (24) and rear cutting units (46) which is determined by the distance travelled by the machine. In this way it is ensured that all unites start and stop cutting at the same reference point on the ground.

  • Patent number: 4750319
Abstract: A grass cutting machine has the operator seat mounted on a pivotable sub-frame which can be displaced relative to the remainder of the chassis to allow easy access to the rear cutting unit for emptying of the grass box or for minor adustments and servicing.

  • Patent number: 4711072
Abstract: A grass cutting attachment for use particularly with compact tractors has a mounting frame, two cutting units lying behind the tractor front wheels and respective support arms which extend from a forward part of the frame rearwardly over the tractor front wheels to support the cutting units. The support arms are pivotal about inclined axes so that the cutting units may be lifted and simultaneously brought sideways into the tractor to reduce overall width. The cutting units are mounted for rocking movement relative to the support arms about fore and aft axis, these axis becoming inclined in the lifted position so that each unit is tilted forwardly and upwardly to improve operator access.

  • Patent number: 4307559
Abstract: In turf maintenance machines, lifting and lowering of e.g. cutter units and partial counterbalancing of such units in their working positions may be provided by hydraulically actuated means comprising at least one selector valve, the or each valve having ports connected with at least one unit lifting ram, a pump, a reservoir and an accumulator. An operator can be certain that, when a unit is lowered to the ground, the required degree of partial counterbalance can be provided. The selector valve is a four position spool valve which in the "lower" position thereof permits discharge of fluid from a ram to the reservoir thereby lowering an associated unit, while connecting the pump to charge the accumulator. When the unit reaches the ground the operator moves the valve to the counterbalance position, thereby counterbalancing the unit to the required extent by connecting the ram to the accumulator.
