  • Patent number: 6021868
Abstract: A cooling and lubrication system for a mechanical change gear transmission includes a first conduit for providing pressurized lubricating fluid from the engine and a second conduit for returning lubricating fluid to the engine. Lubrication may be provided in a dry-sump operating arrangement through a manifold which distributes lubricating fluid among transmission components. A splash lubrication arrangement controls the level of lubricating fluid by appropriate positioning of the transmission outlet port. A small transfer pump and a one-way valve may be utilized to transfer lubricating fluid from the transmission back to the engine.

  • Patent number: 5513542
Abstract: An improved vehicle transmission which substantially reduces the noisy rattle normally produced by interengagement of the input shaft and the input drive gear of the transmission when the engine of the vehicle is operating at idle speed and the transmission is in neutral. The input shaft and the input drive gear are in constant driven relationship. In the inventive structure, the interengageable spline teeth of the input shaft and the input drive gear of the transmission are provided with a greater backlash than is normally used. The intermittent firings of the engine normally cause nonsynchronous rotation of the input shaft relative to the input drive gear with attendant engagement of their respective spline teeth. The increased backlash provides greater spacing between the interengaging teeth which substantially eliminates the engagement of the spline teeth and attendant rattle noise.

  • Patent number: 5492034
Abstract: A change gear device (11) is disclosed of the type including a pair of substantially identical countershafts (27,29). The device includes a hydraulic PTO comprising a pair of fluid displacement mechanisms (71,73), each of which comprises a gerotor pump, and each of which receives input torque from one of the countershafts, by means of a pair of PTO input shafts (61,63), respectively. The PTO input shafts are clutched to the respective countershafts. The pressurized fluid output of the two fluid displacement mechanisms (71,73) is combined at a port (133), or other suitable location. Preferably, the two displacement mechanisms (71,73) are substantially identical, such that equal torques are transmitted through the transmission countershafts (27,29) while the hydraulic PTO of the invention is in operation.

  • Patent number: 4375172
Abstract: An improved, blocked, change gear transmission utilizing at least one improved resilient jaw clutch assembly to selectively engage a selected gear to a shaft is provided. The improved jaw clutch assembly comprises two axially engageable jaw clutch members and a blocker mechanism to prevent engagement of the jaw clutch members until the jaw clutch members are rotating at a substantially synchronous speed. Preferably, one of the jaw clutch members carries axially and radially outwardly extending external clutch teeth designed for selective interengagement with axially and radially inwardly extending internal jaw clutch teeth carried by the other jaw clutch member. The improvement comprises providing a back-lash between the interengageable clutch teeth which is substantially greater than the back-lash normally utilized with similar clutch assemblies, said increased back-lash being in the range of five to fifteen times greater than normal back-lash and preferably about ten times greater than normal back-lash.

  • Patent number: 4290515
Abstract: An improved shiftable change speed transmission is provided. The improved transmission is preferably provided with at least one countershaft having countershaft gears thereon disposed in meshing engagement with main shaft gears encircling the transmission main shaft. Gears are selectively axially movable relative to the associated shaft by conventional means for effecting shifting of the transmission. The axially movable gears cooperate with clutch rings which surround and are supported on and for rotation with the associated shaft by splines, preferably the clutch rings also are axially movable relative to the associated shaft and are resiliently urged in a direction toward the respective gear with which same cooperates, whereby shifting of the axially movable gear toward its respective clutch ring causes resilient axial movement of the latter until synchronization is achieved to permit the clutch ring to move axially in response to said resilient urging and engage the main shaft gear.

  • Patent number: 4192196
Abstract: An improved, blocked, change gear transmission having an input shaft normally driven by a one-way prime mover and an output shaft normally connected to a driven device is provided. The improved blocked transmission utilizes at least one improved blocker and jaw clutch assembly which allows engagement of a selected ratio gear under static conditions, i.e., when the driven device is at rest and the blocked transmission is in neutral.
