The piston rings are disposed in order from closest to the crown and include at least a first compression ring having free ends defining a first end gap, a second compression ring having free ends defining a second end gap. A nominal value of the first end gap of the first compression ring is greater than a nominal value of the second end gap of the second compression ring.

    Abstract: A retrofit kit for converting a single-fuel engine having an air box to run on two different fuels is disclosed. The kit may have at least one gaseous fuel injector mountable inside the air box and associated with each cylinder of the engine. The kit may further have a common flow regulator. The kit may also have at least one individual fuel supply line configured to connect the common flow regulator to the at least one gaseous fuel injector. The kit may additionally have a fuel supply and a common fuel supply line configured to connect the common flow regulator to the fuel supply.

    Abstract: A fuel system for an engine is disclosed. The fuel system may include a gaseous fuel injector configured to inject gaseous fuel into a cylinder of the engine. The gaseous fuel injector may include an end fluidly connected to an air intake port and a tip creating an axial flow path for the gaseous fuel directed toward a center of the cylinder. The fuel system may also include a blocking member located in the axial flow path at a distal end of the tip. The blocking member may include at least one aperture to allow the gaseous fuel to pass through the blocking member on the axial flow path.

The valve guide also includes a recess portion, situated in relation to a water jacket and between the contact portions. The recess portion and contact portions are sized and shaped to maintain the surface temperature of the valve guide to prevent condensation of acidic gases between the valve stem and the valve guide.

    Abstract: A cooling system including an intake air cooling subsystem and a liquid cooling subsystem for controlling intake air temperatures in a supercharged internal combustion diesel locomotive engine. The intake air cooling subsystem includes an air-to-water aftercooler and an air-to-air aftercooler having intake air sides connected to receive intake air flow in series between a supercharger and an engine. The liquid cooling subsystem includes at least one liquid cooling loop having a pump, a radiator and a water coolant side of the air-to-water aftercooler. At least one shared fan circulates air flow to the cooling air sides of the air-to-air aftercooler and the radiator. An optional air distribution control selectively directs circulated air flow between the air-to-air aftercooler, the radiator and other optional components of the cooling system.

    Abstract: An engine cooling system includes a centrifugal coolant pump and a cavitation suppressor in the system upstream of the pump inlet. The suppressor increases pressure in the pump inlet by a converging nozzle that accelerates a jet of coolant at the location of the static head and converting kinetic energy of the jet to increased pressure in a diffuser. In an exemplary embodiment, the suppressor is formed of simple components made from available materials and preferably welded into an assembly. A machined nozzle with a diffuser and head pipe made from available steel pipe comprise the main components of the exemplary cavitation suppressor.

    Abstract: An engine cylinder liner includes inner and outer walls formed integral with a head seat rim and defining a coolant jacket for cooling the inner cylinder wall. Stiffening ribs are provided for strengthening the upper liner structure to withstand combustion forces between the liner and a cylinder head attached to the head seat rim. The stiffening ribs are generally triangular and extend from a low point on the outer wall upward and inward to connection with the inner wall adjacent stud bosses in the head seat rim. Thus, connection of the ribs with the inner wall is minimized and the free flow of coolant along the inner wall is maximized, thereby improving cooling of the cylinder wall and reducing wear and scuffing of the liner in service.

The lock ring is also applicable to other driving or driven shaft and wheel combinations. The lock ring is made part of a two-piece spacer for the illustrated rotor applications but is not limited to that arrangement. Alternative impeller wheel structures including drive means and locking nose cone features are included.
