Patent number: 10787105Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly is provided including a back panel formed of an aluminum alloy material that is stamped to form an aluminum alloy stamped back panel. The aluminum alloy stamped back panel has a periphery and with fastening locations inwardly of the periphery. A backrest frame is provided comprising steel tubes. A plurality of fastening connections fix the back panel to the backrest frame at the fastening locations. A process is provided for forming a vehicle seat assembly including stamping an aluminum alloy sheet to form an aluminum alloy, stamped, back panel with a periphery and with fastening locations inwardly of the periphery, providing a backrest frame comprising steel tubes, providing a plurality of steel fasteners and fixing the aluminum alloy stamped back panel to the backrest frame with the fasteners at the fastening locations.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2018Date of Patent: September 29, 2020Assignee: Adient Engineering and IP GmbHInventors: Yannis Poulos, Miodrag Petrovich, Ryan Schilling, Lucas Porinsky, Edward J. Patent number: 10576857Abstract: A back frame (28) for a seat back (18). The back frame (28) has side members (30) and cross members (32). The side members (30) have a dimension (40) which is larger than a corresponding dimension (42) of the crossmembers (32). The dimensions (40) and (42) being taken along the same direction. The crossmember (32) is inserted into a partial opening (34) in the side member (30). Since the dimension (42) is less than the dimension (40), the partial opening (34) does not extend across the entire dimension (42). Instead the opening (34) only partially extends across the dimension (40) to a length substantially equal to dimension (42). The partial opening (34) is arranged against one side of the side member (30), so that the cross member (32) is positioned closer to that side. Sleeve nuts (36) are arranged in the side members (30), and are used to attach a recliner (54) which then attaches to the seat base (16).Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2017Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: Adient Luxembourg Holding S.á r.l.Inventors: Yannis Poulos, Raghuraj S. Tathe, Ana A. Munte, Roger L. Meyerink, Edward J. Lamont

Patent number: 10377286Abstract: A mechanism for folding a head restraint for a backrest of a seat, including a head restraint and a cross portion, where the cross portion is fixed relative to the backrest. The cross portion defines a first pivot axis, which the head restraint is pivoted about. The cross portion includes a locking disc. The head restraint comprises a cam that pivots about a second pivot axis. The head restraint is configured to be positioned in a usage-position relative to the cross portion and a storage-position relative to the cross portion. The position of the head restraint is changeable between the usage-position and the storage-position by pivoting about the first pivot axis. The cam is configured to be positioned in a locking-position and a releasing-position relative to the head restraint.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2015Date of Patent: August 13, 2019Assignee: Adient Luxembourg Holding S.à r.l.Inventors: Michael Kapusky, Patrick Donnelly, David Hayes, Srinivasa Sanku, Michael Leighton, Edward J. Publication number: 20040080194Abstract: A child safety seat anchorage is mechanically attached and welded to a robust support member, e.g., a tube or bracket, which in turn is secured to a vehicle seat or the vehicle frame. The welding of the wire rod is primarily for the purpose of positioning the wire rod at the prescribed location within a vehicle so that hooks, straps or other connectors from a child safety seat can be attached to the wire rod anchorage. The anchorage is located at and extends from a bite line between a seat cushion and a seat back. Alternative attachment designs include the use of a strap, alternative design wire rod anchorages and slots and holes to connect the wire rod anchorage to the tube or bracket.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2002Publication date: April 29, 2004Applicant: Johnson Controls Technology CompanyInventors: Jeffry P. Publication number: 20040080195Abstract: An anchorage for connecting an article such as a child safety seat to a vehicle seat includes a wire rod having rectangular shape and having first and second legs each terminating in a bent portion. A unitary attachment bracket is mechanically and weldlessly connected to the wire rod in a pressing operation wherein the attachment bracket includes retainer members aligned with the bent portions of the wire rod to prevent the bent portions from straightening when a load is applied to the wire rod. The attachment bracket connects the wire rod to a vehicle component. A method of producing the anchorage includes producing the wire rod and the attachment bracket blank and aligning them to weldlessly, mechanically capture the wire rod in the formed attachment bracket and then connect the anchorage to the vehicle component.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2002Publication date: April 29, 2004Applicant: Johnson Controls Technology CompanyInventors: Grant A.
