Patent number: 9010472Abstract: A footrest assembly includes a body portion having an upper contact surface adapted to support a vehicle occupant's foot at a predetermined angle. The footrest assembly includes mounting members adapted to couple the footrest assembly to a base unit disposed on a vehicle floorboard. The footrest assembly includes a depression or recess adapted to receive a parking brake pedal when the parking brake is in a fully actuated position. Thus, the footrest assembly is configured to provide a footrest option in a vehicle interior that would otherwise not have the space requirements to accommodate a footrest, while also allowing for full functionality of a parking brake pedal.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: April 21, 2015Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Edward Joseph Leonard Meszaros, William Edward Draper, David Thomas Patrick, Keith Brown

Patent number: 8991892Abstract: A cowl trim assembly includes a panel body having an outwardly extending support base. An adjustable footrest assembly is supported on the support base between fore and aft positions. The footrest assembly includes connecting members adapted to couple the adjustable footrest assembly to the panel body at laterally extending slots disposed on the panel body. The laterally extending slots include receiving grooves incrementally spaced along the slots which are adapted to receive the connecting members of the footrest assembly in assembly. Thus, the footrest assembly is laterally adjustable relative to the panel body along the length of the slots.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2013Date of Patent: March 31, 2015Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Edward Joseph Leonard Meszaros, David Thomas Patrick

Patent number: 8770616Abstract: A deployable footrest assembly includes a top plate that is actuated by an actuator such that the top plate is operable between stowed and deployed positions. During deployment, the top plate is released from a housing by moving a latch mechanism to an unlatched position. Once the top plate is released from the housing, the actuator provides an in-line assist feature to linkage arms of a linkage assembly. Powered by the actuator, the linkage arms rotate to a fixed or set position thereby allowing a vehicle occupant to use the unit as a deployed footrest. During stowage, the latch assembly is coupled to a stowage mechanism, such that when the latch assembly is actuated, the stowage mechanism pulls the linkage arms beyond the set locking threshold angle thereby enabling the top plate to collapse back to a stowed position.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: William Edward Draper, Edward Joseph Leonard Meszaros, Joseph Porcari

Patent number: 8714620Abstract: A cowl trim assembly includes a panel body having front and side panel portions with anchor mechanism adapted to couple the trim assembly to a vehicle frame, and more specifically, to a vehicle door sill frame. A footrest assembly extends outwardly from the panel body having one or more reinforcement members disposed on an underside of the footrest assembly which are adapted to support the footrest assembly on a vehicle floor. In this configuration the footrest assembly is an integrated part of the cowl trim assembly, thereby providing a one-piece trim component having a self supporting footrest assembly, wherein the reinforcement members are adapted to carry loads applied to the footrest assembly by a vehicle occupant to the vehicle frame.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2013Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Edward Joseph Leonard Meszaros, Keith Brown, William Bauer
