  • Patent number: 11913914
Abstract: An example material testing apparatus includes: guide means; sample holding means for holding a sample; force means for applying force to the sample; a crosshead arranged to support at least a portion of one or both of the sample holding means and the force means, wherein the crosshead is moveable about the guide means; automated clamping means configured to apply a releasable clamping force between the guide means and the crosshead to secure the crosshead at a location with respect to the guide means, and a controller configured to control the automated clamping means to apply the clamping force between the guide means and the crosshead.

  • Patent number: 9561537
Abstract: Shown is a method for manufacturing horizontal directional drilling pipe having internally and externally upset pipe ends. The forging is done by heating the green tube ends and applying pressure using a closed die hydraulic forging press to form the upsets. One end of a steel tube is worked by upsetting and pressing to form an external upset portion having an outer taper being shaped by upset forging. That portion is then pressed by an internal upset die so as to displace the outer taper to an internal upset portion having an inner taper. Internal upset forging is then carried out by an internal upset die to produce the finished part. The process allows the manufacturer to produce a thicker upset horizontal directional drilling pipe, where the ratio of the outside diameter to the inside diameter of the upset can be on the order of 3.5, or even greater.

  • Patent number: 9212079
Abstract: In a vertical glass drawing process, an edge guiding assembly (33) located between a glass forming apparatus (41) and a glass sheet separating apparatus (20) reduces horizontal motion of the glass ribbon (13) from which the glass sheets (11) are removed and results in the reduction of the difference in stress levels between the top and bottom edges of a glass sheet (11) made by the process. The edge guiding assembly also provides a reduction of the variation of stress levels between successive sheets of glass made by the vertical drawing process.

  • Patent number: 4813881
Abstract: A female electrical contact is provided having spaced jaws adapted to receive a mating contact such as a male pin. The spaced jaws are formed so that release forces of different magnitude are necessary to withdraw such male contact from the spaced jaws at the opposed contact ends.

  • Patent number: 4285565
Abstract: A connector for making electrical contact with a printed circuit board includes a pair of contact members which are disposed in a housing. The contact members have cantilevered spring sections which engage each other to complete an electrical circuit. The cantilevered spring sections diverge from their area of engagement and extend through slots in interior walls of the housing. The cantilevered spring sections have T-shaped end sections which span the slots and are engageable with the interior walls of the housing to prevent the contact members from moving out of the slots and being trapped between the interior walls of the housing. The cantilevered spring sections of the contact members have arcuate connector sections which have their centers of curvature located between the contact members. In addition, the cantilevered spring sections have arcuate contact sections which curve in a direction opposite the direction of curvature of the connector sections.

  • Patent number: 4208083
Abstract: A solderless electrical connector is provided for use in interconnecting a plurality of insulated electrical conductors, i.e., each having an insulation covering or cover. The connector includes a housing of dielectric material having a plurality of spaced pockets, each pocket having an entry opposite a base thereof. Disposed within each pocket is an electrical contact element which has a mating portion and a plurality of termination portions. Each termination portion is provided with jaw means which form a pair of narrow passages into which a segment of a conductor is positioned. When the conductor segment is positioned within the narrow passages the insulation cover is ruptured by the jaw means and electrical contact is made. Each termination portion is also provided with conductor-restraining means which is disposed adjacent the jaw means.
