  • Publication number: 20110216546
Abstract: An electrical device is described having surface mounting structure for mounting the electrical device in one of at least three different mounting patterns. In one embodiment, the electrical device is a lampholder having an occupancy sensor. In this embodiment, the occupancy sensor defines a coverage area and an un-coverage area when the lampholder is mounted to a surface, such as a ceiling, via the surface mounting structure; and, the surface mounting structure includes four sets of keyholes enabling the lampholder to be mounted to fasteners on the surface in one of a plurality of different mounting patterns for positioning the un-coverage area in a desired location, such as, for example, opposite the closest entry point to a room. The coverage area corresponds to a detection field of the occupancy sensor. Motion in the detection field is detected by the occupancy sensor.

  • Publication number: 20060070865
Abstract: An architectural preset rotary and preset slide control device comprising an N-mode latch mechanically coupled to a switch having a pole and a plurality of receiving terminals. The device further comprises a variable control component that is electrically coupled to the switch such that when the latch is activated into one of the N modes, the switch pole is caused to be electrically coupled to one of the receiving terminals allowing electrical energy at the pole to be routed through the switch to one of the receiving terminals. The variable control component controls the amount of electrical energy that is routed through the switch. The device has a modular design in that the switch, latch, variable control component and other parts of the device are single piece parts that facilitate the assembly of the device during its manufacture.

  • Patent number: 5703458
Abstract: A quiet motor speed controller is disclosed which varies an amplitude of an AC voltage signal provided from an AC source to drive an AC motor. The controller includes a first impedance in series connection between the source and the motor. A second impedance is electrically connectable with the first impedance in accordance with settings of a switch such that the total impedance interposed between the source and the load is varied by switching. The first and second impedances are substantially defined by first and second capacitive values, preferably including resistive elements to limit current flow at charging and discharging.

  • Patent number: 4071720
Abstract: Unusually long life and reliability in a selector switch are achieved by providing long-wearing components which, in turn, contribute to an essentially dust-free environment for the contact portions of the switch. Materials of all parts produce a minimum of abrasion dust and the conformation of the housing structure prevents the entry of exterior dust. A binary coded cam having multiple cam sections causes sliding contact between spring type contact elements and shorting bars. The rotary element and the two main housing portions are molded of a highly wear resistant, low friction material. The detent mechanism is separated from the contact elements and the metal housing clamp locks the housing portions in the mated position, and helps to seal the housing against exterior dust. All components provide maximum life expectancy and low wear properties.
