Patent number: 4702409Abstract: A collapsible tray is formed from a single blank of cut and scored foldable material and comprises a generally rectangular bottom panel, side walls extending from opposite sides of the bottom panel and end walls extending from opposite ends of the bottom panel. Corner connecting flaps are provided at each end of the side walls and abbreviated top panels are foldably attached to the upper edges of the side walls. The top panels also include corner reinforcing flaps located at each respective end. The corner connecting flaps are adhered to the inner surfaces of the end walls at each corner and the corner reinforcing flaps are folded downward inside the tray to overlap the corner connecting flaps. The corner reinforcing flaps are retained in place when tabs included on the ends thereof are inserted in slots provided in the bottom panel and with the aid of additional locking tabs provided on the corner connecting flaps which are accessed by openings provided in the end walls.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1986Date of Patent: October 27, 1987Assignee: Westvaco CorporationInventor: Edward L. Patent number: 4474293Abstract: A multi-product merchandising package comprises a base pad having a plurality of products situated thereon covered by a heat shrunk film overwrap. The base pad is prepared from a combination of at least one sheet of single wall corrugated paperboard bonded to at least one sheet of single face corrugated paperboard in such a manner that the corrugated surface of the single face sheet faces upwardly. The corrugated surface of the single face sheet is selectively embossed in a pattern that corresponds to the size and shape of the products situated thereon for positioning and retaining the products on the base pad. The heat shrunk film conforms to the shape of the products and base pad to form a compact unit package. Where desired, base pads may be positioned at both the top and bottom of the packaged products.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1983Date of Patent: October 2, 1984Assignee: Westvaco CorporationInventor: Edward L. Patent number: 4319710Abstract: A reinforced end sealed container is prepared from a singe blank of paperboard that is symmetrically cut and scored to provide a bottom panel, foldably attached side and end wall panels, a pair of top closure flaps and a plurality of corner connecting panels, the improvement wherein the top closure flaps are also provided with integral end seal flaps and the end walls are provided with T-tabs, which, together with a notched portion of at least one of said top closure flaps, produces a container with superior end sealing strength. The notched portion of at least one of the top closure flaps serves as a reinforcing compression column between the T-tabs to provide increased resistance to any damage the container or its contents might suffer when the container is sealed closed.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1980Date of Patent: March 16, 1982Assignee: Westvaco CorporationInventor: Edward L.
