  • Patent number: 5932777
Abstract: A hydrocarbon conversion process comprises: (1) contacting a hydrocarbon feed such as, for example, gasoline, with a catalyst under a sufficient condition to effect the conversion of the hydrocarbon to a product stream comprising aromatic hydrocarbons and olefins; (2) separating the product stream into a lights fraction comprising primarily hydrocarbons less than 6 carbon atoms per molecule, a middle fraction comprising C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbons and non-aromatic hydrocarbons, and a C.sub.9 + fraction comprising aromatic compounds; (3) separating the C.sub.6 -C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbons from the middle fraction; and (4) separating hydrocarbons containing 5 or more carbons per molecule (C.sub.5 + hydrocarbons) from the lights fraction. The C.sub.5 + hydrocarbons can be combined with the hydrocarbon feed. The non-aromatic hydrocarbons can also be converted to olefins by a thermal cracking process. Furthermore, the middle fraction can also be obtained by reforming naphtha.

  • Patent number: 5080777
Abstract: For upgrading heavy slurry oil containing catalyst fines from a catalytic cracking operation, the viscosity of the slurry oil is lowered in a hydrovisbreaking process step. In a preferred embodiment an admixture of the fines containing slurry oil and a metal containing resid oil fraction, resulting from a crude distillation, is passed through the hydrovisbreaker. The hydrovisbreaker effluent is separated into higher and lower boiling fractions with the lower boiling fraction preferably passed through a cracking unit so as to covert the lower boiling fraction to lower molecular weight hydrocarbon products.

  • Patent number: 5024750
Abstract: Heavy hydrocarbon oil, containing asphaltene, sulfur and metal contaminants, is hydrotreated in the presence of a hydrotreating catalyst having a small pore diameter in an initial process step to remove sulfur and metal contaminants. Removal of additional metal and sulfur contaminants is then accomplished in a second process step by solvent deasphalting, wherein the size of the pore diameter of the hydrotreating catalyst utilized in the initial hydrotreating step affects the metals rejection in the subsequent solvent deasphalting step. In a third process step the deasphalted oil is catalytically cracked substantially in the absence of added hydrogen to provide lower boiling hydrocarbon products.

  • Patent number: 4715948
Abstract: In a hydrofining process, the life of a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group comprising alumina, silica and silica-alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIB, Group VIIB, and Group VIII of the periodic table is improved by mixing a decomposable compound of molybdenum with the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream prior to contacting the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream with the catalyst composition. The molybdenum in the decomposable compound is in valence state of zero. A sufficient quantity of the decomposable compound of molybdenum is added to the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream to result in a concentration of molybdenum in the range of about 1 to about 60 ppm. The introduction of the decomposable compound of molybdenum may be commenced when the catalyst is new, partially deactivated or spent with a beneficial result occurring in each case.
