Patent number: 9294716Abstract: First image data representing a first view, captured by a camera system, of a second location, is displayed at the first location. The first view is associated with a first orientation relative to the second location. A first angular displacement associated with a motion of a chair disposed at the first location is determined. Information representing the first angular displacement is transmitted to the camera system. Second image data representing a second view of the second location associated with a second orientation is displayed at the first location, the second orientation having a relationship to the first orientation based on the first angular displacement.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2012Date of Patent: March 22, 2016Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Edward L. Sutter, Hock M. Ng

Patent number: 9008487Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and computer-readable media for creating a spatial bookmark are provided. A method includes performing an action at a near location which causes a spatial bearing parameter corresponding to a real-time video image captured by a video-camera platform at a remote location to be stored in a computer-readable memory, wherein the video-camera platform has a controllable LOS. Performing an action at the near location that designates to a computer an image displayed on a screen, wherein the image is representative of the real-time video image, thereby causing the computer to retrieve the spatial bearing parameter from the computer-readable memory, and performing an action causing the computer to aim the video-camera platform along a LOS, wherein the video-camera platform captures a real-time video image that is received at a screen for display at the near location.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2011Date of Patent: April 14, 2015Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Edward L Sutter, Hock M Ng

Patent number: 8966556Abstract: A multi-media method, system and apparatus are provided to optimize a network bandwidth and enhanced video experience. Each of a plurality of environmental views are encoded and the encoded multi-media streams are subsequently transcoded in accordance with respective encoding characteristics. The resulting video streams are then provided to a user for selecting preferred views. The user's multi-media preferential attributes are determined from the viewer's feedback. In response to the viewers' feedback, a video manager communicates to the cameras/encoders encoding characteristics and to the transcoders transcoding characteristics associated with corresponding encoded multi-media streams. A transport processor encodes for transport each of a plurality of the transcoded video streams and communicate towards viewers the transcoded video streams.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2009Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Ronald L. Sharp, Edward L. Sutter

Publication number: 20120216129Abstract: An immersive meeting capability is depicted and described herein. The immersive meeting capability is configured for improving various aspects of a meeting held between one or more local participants located at a physical location at which the meeting is being held and one or more remote participants remote from the physical location at which the meeting is being held. The immersive meeting capability enables the remote participants to access and/or control one or more devices located at the physical location at which the meeting is being held and/or one or more views associated with the physical location at which the meeting is being held, thereby enabling remote participants to become immersed into the meeting.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2011Publication date: August 23, 2012Inventors: Hock M. Ng, Edward L. Sutter, Richard M. Abbot

Patent number: 6694393Abstract: A program file or other type of information file for use in an embedded system is partially compressed in a host device and subsequently transferred to a non-volatile memory of the embedded system. The compressed portion of the file may include non-relocation data such as data sections, text sections, symbol tables, etc. The uncompressed portion includes relocation data such as section headers or a file header which identify one or more destination locations for corresponding parts of the file in a random access memory of the embedded system. A loading program running on a processor of the embedded system determines a destination location for at least part of the file within the embedded system without decompressing the compressed portion of the file. The invention advantageously eliminates the need for multiple file copy operations in transferring data between non-volatile memory and random access memory in an embedded system.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Edward L.
