Publication number: 20150033719Abstract: In order to avoid cavitation in a boom cylinder head end at the beginning of a dig cycle, fluid from an alternate source is supplied to the head end before or in addition to fluid supplied by the main boom-up hydraulic circuit. In one embodiment, an electronic hydraulic valve, related sensors, and control system determines the beginning of a dig operation and uses fluid at an intermediate pressure to rapidly provide fluid to a boom head end cylinder to prevent voiding or cavitation before fluid under high pressure from the main pump can be brought to the cylinder. An on/off fluid switch is activated early in a dig operation to address low pressure at the boom cylinder head end and provide an alternate path for fluid into the cylinder in reaction to the boom being lifted by a motion of the stick and bucket in contact with the work surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2013Publication date: February 5, 2015Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Keith Edward Lawrence, John James Krone, Nick William Biggs, Karl Arthur Kirsch, Yuya Kanenawa, Tetsuya Yoshino, Magomed Gabibulayev

Patent number: 8926127Abstract: A highly efficient, lightweight solid state lighting panel is disclosed that has multiple LED sources, and emits a substantially uniform light intensity between said sources. The light from these sources is directed towards a highly reflective, diffusive, backing. These LED sources are placed between the reflector and a partially transmissive, partially reflective output coupler to form a cavity. The LEDs, which are mounted to printed circuit boards to form strips, can be either attached to the inner surface of the diffuser with adhesive, or suspended on a thermally dissipative structure within the cavity. By optimizing the reflector to have as high of a reflectance value as possible (>95%) along with a output diffuser with about 50% transmission and 50% reflection, one can obtain cavity transmissions higher than 90%. The output from this disclosed design is more pleasant to look at than those with LEDs that directly illuminate the diffuser, causing hotspots.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2011Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Inventor: Edward Lawrence Sinofsky

Patent number: 8295832Abstract: Methods and systems to provide a home system with information about a wireless unit roaming in a visited system based on information the wireless unit provides to the visited system. A mobile switching center (MSC-V) of the visited system receives the information from the wireless unit and routes a message to an international gateway. In response, the international gateway creates a new message or alters the original message, and transmits the new or altered message to a mobile switching center (MSC-H) of the home system. In response to receipt of the new or altered message, the MSC-H validates the wireless unit (if valid), creates a response to the new or altered message, and routes the response to the international gateway. The response may include an authorization period for the wireless unit and/or OCOS/TCOS information. In response, the international gateway creates a new response or alters the response, and transmits the new or altered response to the MSC-V.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2006Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Dono Tech Services LLCInventors: Robert Andrew Adamany, Richard L. Publication number: 20100269502Abstract: In the “External Combustion Engine” fluid stored in a compressed fluid tank is released, and then heated by a synchronized heat exchanger. Heat is added at constant volume in a series of heaters and pre-heaters. The last heater is immediately above the power piston while the power piston is at the top of its stroke. Adiabatic expansion takes place and produces power output. Energy from the compressed fluid tank produces power output. Adiabatic expansion again takes place, and produces power output all the way to complete expansion. The spent fluid is exhausted through the heat exchanger, cooled, compressed, and stored in the compressed fluid tank. The pre-heaters heat all the fluid in the pre-heaters at constant volume and any number of pre-heaters can be used thereby providing unlimited time to transfer heat into the engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2007Publication date: October 28, 2010Inventor: Edward Lawrence Warren
