  • Patent number: 11414067
Abstract: A computing device implemented method includes receiving one or more signals that represent an angular speed of a permanent magnet electric motor of a hybrid electric vehicle, the one or more signals being provided by an angular sensor connected to the electric motor, receiving a signal representing a voltage from the electric motor, the voltage being a direct axis voltage component of a three-phase motor model, determining if the angular speed is within a predetermined threshold, calculating an error angle representing a correction factor for an alignment of the electric motor based on a ratio of the voltage and the angular speed, storing the correction factor, and determining a binary indication of a status of error angle, and repeating the steps until the binary indication is positive.

  • Publication number: 20210331661
Abstract: A system includes a computing device with memory configured to store instructions and a processor to execute the instructions for operations that include receiving information that represents when a voltage of an energy storage system of a hybrid vehicle decreases to a pre-determined voltage value, determining a value of a back electromagnetic field (EMF) generated by an electric motor powered by the energy storage system when a commanded torque of the electric motor is zero, and causing a regenerative current to be provided to the energy storage system. The regenerative current provided is configured to maintain the voltage of the energy storage system at or above the pre-determined voltage value responsive to the commanded torque of the electric motor being zero and the voltage of the energy storage system being reduced to the pre-determined voltage value.

  • Publication number: 20210253082
Abstract: A computing device-implemented method includes receiving data representative of one or more operational parameters for a vehicle, calculating the fuel rate required for an internal combustion engine of the vehicle to respond to the operational parameters, determining if the required fuel rate exceeds a threshold which would cause a state change in the performance of the internal combustion engine, if the required fuel rate exceeds the threshold, calculating an amount of assistance required for an electric hybrid traction motor to provide to a drivetrain of the vehicle to implement the received operational parameters of the vehicle, and providing the amount of assistance to the drivetrain of the vehicle, thereby preventing the state change in the performance of the internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20070273240
Abstract: A system for and method of rotating a transfer wheel providing heat and/or moisture exchange between two counter-flowing air streams. The system comprises: a frame; a transfer wheel including a transfer matrix mounted and rotationally secured relative to the frame so that the wheel can rotate through the two counter-flowing air streams and heat and/or moisture can be transferred between the two counter-flowing air streams; and a first plurality of motor components fixedly mounted relative to the wheel so that components of the first plurality function as a rotor of a motor, and a second plurality of motor components fixedly mounted relative to the frame so that components of the second plurality function as a stator of a motor; wherein power supplied to motor components of the second plurality causes the transfer wheel to rotate through the two counter-flowing air streams.

  • Publication number: 20060208589
Abstract: An integrated bearing system (10) for supporting a rotatable shaft journal (58). The system (10) comprises a foil bearing (40) in combination with a magnetic field generating device (50) that produces a magnetic bearing capability to the rotatable shaft journal (58). The foil bearing (40) is integrated into the magnetic field generating device (50), leaving an air gap between the shaft journal (58) and the foil bearing (10). Under normal operating conditions, the magnetic field generating device (50) and the foil bearing (10) each provide a portion of the support to the shaft journal (58).
