  • Publication number: 20120253115
Abstract: An endoscopic system comprises an endoscope having a fibreoptic cable bundle, an elongate insertion member for insertion into a patient and an operating port. Endoscopic tools, such as cytology brushes, may be inserted into the port. A piece of absorbent material is attached to a cytology brush which acts as a scaffold for the membrane allowing its controlled placement on internal body surfaces after it is inserted into the patient via the port and elongate insertion member. The material absorbs neat fluid from inside the patient. The cytology brush and SAM material are removed and the fluid extracted from the material. The SAM material is discarded, however the cytology brush may be reused on the same patient.
