  • Patent number: 4007583
Abstract: The electrooptic display of an electronic timepiece has a total of only twelve indicator elements. Hours are indicated by causing one element to produce one kind of optical output such as steady illumination. Minutes are indicated by causing an element to produce another kind of optical output such as intensity modulated illumination. The particular element selected for intensity modulation is a coarse indication of minutes (5 minute increments); the modulation itself is a fine indication of minutes (1 minute increments). Similar techniques may be employed for indicating the month and day.
