  • Patent number: 7722210
Abstract: An advanced forward lighting system may be made with a lamp having a first filament and a second filament extending perpendicular to the first filament. The second filament is partially hidden rearward and above the first filament. A reflector forms a main beam from the first filament light and a right or left cast supplemental beam from the second filament light. The second filament's position minimizes glare, and enables a simple advanced forward lighting system from a single standard lamp fitting both right and left side reflectors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 2008
Date of Patent: May 25, 2010
    Assignee: OSRAM SYLVANIA Inc.
Inventors: Thomas Tessnow, Joseph C. Swadel, Daniel D. Devir, Richard D. Holland, Edward P. Otto, Michael Tucker

  • Publication number: 20080272695
Abstract: A lamp assembly (10) comprising: a lamp (20) having a glass envelope (22) containing a gaseous fill at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure and a seal (24) comprising a substantially parallelepipedonal structure having two oppositely disposed long sides (26, 28) and two oppositely disposed short sides (30, 32); and a retainer (50) engaging the seal (24), the retainer (50) including four pressure points (52), two on each of the long sides (26, 28) with an indent separating each pair of the long side pressure points.

  • Patent number: 6203169
Abstract: A lamp assembly is provided which includes a lamp such as an arc tube sealed within a sleeve which is attached to a pair of retainer members which are coupled to a base component. The sleeve includes a circumferential groove and the retainer members include curved detents. The retainer members are attached to the sleeve by causing the detents to engage the surface of the groove and mate therewith, the two retainer members being welded together. Respective segments of the retainer members are tensioned relative to a mounting portion of the base component and attached thereto.

  • Patent number: 5173632
Abstract: A high-pressure sodium arc discharge lamp having a novel arc tube support member which provides a secure mechanical and electrical connection and does not require welding between the support member and the arc tube lead wire or feedthrough. The support member may be adapted for mounting a single arc tube or two arc tubes within the outer envelope. The feedthrough of each arc tube is inserted into an aperture in the support member such that a secure interference fit is achieved. The interference fit is similar to the fastening of a threadless nut. In a preferred embodiment, the support member has a first planar surface having one or more apertures therein and two second planar surfaces substantially perpendicular to the first planar surface; each second planar surface has a protruding leg by which the support member may be mounted on the internal lamp frame.
