  • Patent number: 9719564
Abstract: A synchronizer mechanism for synchronizing the rotation of gears between a power input shaft and a power output shaft in a manual transmission includes a hub and a synchronizer sleeve disposed about the hub and moveable relative thereto into and out of engagement with adjacent gears to synchronize the rotation of the adjacent gears with the rotation of the power input shaft. An indexing mechanism is employed for indexing the synchronizer sleeve into and out of engagement with adjacent gears. The indexing mechanism includes a retaining mechanism and a detent portion having a main synchronization detent and at least one second synchronization detent disposed laterally adjacent the main synchronization detent. The main synchronization detent causes an intermediate clutch ring to contact a cylindrical cone portion on a gear and begin the change in angular velocity of the gear and to begin the synchronization sequence of the mechanism at a first time.

  • Patent number: 5803218
Abstract: A synchronizer unit eliminates the chattering noise generated when shifting a manual transmission into reverse from a forward gear while the drive shaft continues to rotate in the direction corresponding with the forward gear by providing a reverse brake arrangement for arresting rotation of the input shaft. The reverse brake arrangement includes a shaft rotatably supported by the transmission housing and a clutch hub mounted on the shaft which is adapted to rotate with the shaft. The clutch hub has a splined outer circumference. A shift sleeve is provided for engagement with the splined outer circumference of the clutch hub and is movable in the axial direction of the shaft. The reverse brake mechanism further includes a frustoconical cone in coaxial relation to the shaft and disposed on a first side of the clutch hub. The frustoconical cone includes a frustoconical surface on its outer periphery. A first blocker ring is coaxially aligned with the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5667036
Abstract: An oil distributing apparatus for use with a transmission, and method for producing the same, are disclosed to provide an improved lubrication system for supplying lubricating fluid to certain areas of the transmission. The improved lubrication system includes an oil distributing apparatus having an end plate connectable to a transmission housing and an oil dam connected to the end plate to form an oil chamber therebetween that is hydraulically connectable to a supply of lubricating fluid in the transmission. The oil chamber provides a flow path that is substantially isolated from the turbulence inducing effects of the rotating shafts and associated bearings in the transmission.

  • Patent number: 5027672
Abstract: An automobile transmission shift fork has its free branch ends formed with diametrically opposed notches with each notch engaging an improved plastic insert adapted to be received in an annular groove of a shift element. The insert has individual side walls interconnected by an intermediate spacer block designed for fixed conforming reception in an associated branch end notch. This arrangement substantially increases the effective insert side wall thrust face area relative to the groove abutting radial side thrust surface obviating the need to increase the depth of an existing shift element groove. The insert has an indented stop wall which engages its associated notch back wall upon fixed reception in its notch. The spacer block exceeds the notch depth by a predetermined differential dimension establishing paired insert raised edges adapted to ride on the annular groove base surface eliminating metal-to-metal contact therebetween.
