    Abstract: A flux cored tubular metallic arc cutting electrode having a steel tube with a core composition of particulate carbonaceous material which is drawn and compacted within the steel tube by reducing the size of the tube. Preferably the carbonaceous material contains at least 75% carbon and additive selected from the group consisting of arc stabilizers, fluxing agents, and gas formers. The electrode is characterized in use by reduced dross formation.

    Abstract: A flux cored tubular metallic arc cutting electrode having a low carbon steel tube and a compacted core composition consisting of a particulate reactant metal such as magnesium, aluminum, zirconicum, titanium and alloys of at least two of the particulate reactant metals, mixed with an exothermically reactable metal oxide. Preferably the metal oxide is an iron group oxide such as iron oxide or nickel oxide. The particulate reactant metal is characterized by a free energy of formation of its oxide referred to 25.degree. C. of at least 100,000 calories per gram atom of oxygen, the exothermically reactable metal oxide being characterized by a free energy of formation not exceeding 90,000 calories per gram atom of oxygen referred to 25.degree. C. Additionally the electrode can contain an additive such as an arc stabilizer, a fluxing agent, a deoxidizer or a gas former.

    Abstract: A nickel-base welding electrode is provided comprising a nickel core and a metallic powder-laden flux coating bonded thereto, the total composition of the electrode comprising about 40% to 50% by weight of the nickel core and about 60% to 50% by weight of the coating. The coating contains as fluxes about 18% to 30% titanium dioxide, about 8% to 16% calcium fluoride, about 1% to 3% iron carbonate, about 1.5% to 4% calcium carbonate, about 2% to 6% calcium-magnesium carbonate, and contains as the powdered metals about 20% to 30% chromium, about 3% to 8% manganese, about 1% to 4% molybdenum, about 1% to 5% niobium, about 8% to 18% iron, 0% to about 6% nickel, up to 1% graphite, and as extrusion aids about 1% to 4% clay and about 1% to 5% organic extrusion aid material.
