  • Patent number: 4381200
Abstract: An improved process for forming an acoustical or thermal insulating fibrous glass product is provided, wherein the binder employed is asphalt and the asphalt is converted into a substantially insolubilized form.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1981
Date of Patent: April 26, 1983
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Charles E. Bolen, Edward R. Harrington, Alfred Marzocchi, Michael G. Roberts
  • Patent number: 4349590
Abstract: Glass substrates are provided, for example, glass fibers, with a substantially solvent insoluble coating of asphalt.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1981
Date of Patent: September 14, 1982
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Charles E. Bolen, Edward R. Harrington, Alfred Marzocchi, Michael G. Roberts
  • Patent number: 4338231
Abstract: An asphalt-modified polyester composition comprising an asphalt which has first been reacted with a polycarboxylic acid or anhydride and a polyalcohol; the modified asphalt is then reacted with a polyester and a vinyl aromatic monomer to produce a molding composition which is ideally suited for combination with a glass fiber reinforcement in the molding of rigid bodies reinforced with, for example, glass fibers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 27, 1980
Date of Patent: July 6, 1982
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Alfred Marzocchi, Charles E. Bolen, Edward R. Harrington, Michael G. Roberts
  • Patent number: 4332704
Abstract: A chemically-modified asphalt composition formed by reaction of an asphalt, a polycarboxylic acid or anhydride and an organic polyalcohol. The resulting polyester-modified asphalt composition can be cross linked using a vulcanizing agent to form hard rigid bodies which can be reinforced with reinforcements and/or fillers, notably including glass fibers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 12, 1980
Date of Patent: June 1, 1982
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Alfred Marzocchi, Michael G. Roberts, Charles E. Bolen, Edward R. Harrington
  • Patent number: 4301051
Abstract: A chemically modified asphalt prepared by reacting an asphalt with a polymerizable vinyl monomer (e.g., styrene) and a rubbery polymer whereby the rubbery polymer is chemically integrated with the asphalt. The chemically modified asphalt can be, if desired, further cross linked by reaction with a cross linking agent such as a polycarboxylic acid, an organic isocyanate or an organic polyepoxide. The chemically modified asphalt compositions of the invention can be used in the treatment of glass fibers as well as in road paving applications and the like.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 1980
Date of Patent: November 17, 1981
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Alfred Marzocchi, Michael G. Roberts, Charles E. Bolen, Edward R. Harrington
  • Patent number: 4273685
Abstract: A rubber modified asphalt composition prepared by reacting a bituminous material with a polymerizable aromatic monomer and a rubbery polymer whereby the rubbery polymer is chemically integrated with the asphalt. The rubber modified asphalt compositions of this invention can be used in the treatment of glass fibers as well as in road paving applications, roofing applications and the like.
    Type: Grant
