  • Publication number: 20130345572
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for determining two or more respiratory parameters relating to an individual and a method for determining two or more respiratory parameters relating to an individual by means of the device. The disclosed device and method may be used in an individual suffering from pulmonary gas exchange problems relating to gas exchange of oxygen and/or carbon dioxide, e.g. a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The device and method may also be used in a healthy individual or in an animal, e.g. for research experiments. The device has detection means for oxygen and carbon dioxide contents in inspired and expired gas and blood.

  • Publication number: 20130186242
Abstract: The disclosed invention relates to a fire sprinkler shut-off tool for stopping water flow from an activated fire sprinkler head. Due to the lack of any automatic safety release mechanisms, such tools currently on market suffer the disadvantage of requiring constant monitoring in case fire rekindles. The shut-off tool comprising a pair of adjustable clamping arms and an actuator assembly for adjusting and fixing the clamping arms addresses the safety issue by integrating a fusible link locking tab into the actuator assembly. The presence of a nearby fire melts and separates the locking tab thereby releasing the clamping arms from an activated fire sprinkler head. The shut-off tool also addresses the safety problem of firemen or building maintenance personnel using a shut-off device that requires two hands while working from a ladder as this device can be easily used with one hand.

  • Patent number: 7395159
Abstract: A methodology for converting venous blood values to arterial blood values provides the advantage of obviating the need for taking arterial blood samples. The method entails (i) measuring arterial oxygenation, (ii) measuring and estimating values of venous blood acid/base status and oxygenation status of a venous blood sample, and (iii) converting the venous blood values by applying a mathematical model for deriving blood acid/base status and oxygenation status into estimated arterial blood values.

  • Publication number: 20060154307
Abstract: The present invention relates to receptor/reporter fusion protein based assays for detecting an effect test compounds have on a particular membrane receptor, as well as to receptor/reporter fusion proteins for use in such assays and compounds identified by the assays as having interesting/useful effects. Suitable membrane receptors are growth factor receptors, cytokine receptors, ion channels and integrins including any subtypes, mutants, homologs and chimeric forms of such receptors. The assay is particularly suited to studying G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs).

  • Patent number: 7008380
Abstract: A device for determining one or more respiratory parameters relating to an individual is disclosed, as well as a method for determining one or more respiratory parameters by means of the device, wherein the individual is suffering from hypoxemia or is at risk of hypoxemia. However, the method and the device may also be applied to healthy individual e.g. for testing of medicaments. The device is controlled by a computer equipped with suitable software and includes functionality for on-line continuous data collection, automatic assessment of the timing of measurements, automatic assessment of the next target (oxygen saturation of arterial blood (SpO2)), automatic assessment of the appropriate fraction of oxygen in inspired gas (FIO2) settings to achieve the target SpO2, automatic control of the FIO2, on-line parameter estimation, and automatic assessment of the number of measurememts requied.

  • Patent number: 6745915
Abstract: A drinking vessel includes a cover and a mouthpiece, the mouthpiece having at least a flexible portion which in its unflexed state engages a plug extending up through the mouthpiece. When the flexible portion is flexed, for example by suction or pressing or biting with lips or teeth the flexible portion flexes out of engagement with the plug, forming a liquid passage. As a result a self-sealing drinking vessel is provided which provides liquid on user demand.
