  • Patent number: 5884997
Abstract: A light bar for mounting on an emergency vehicle has a modular construction using trays for mounting lights. The trays are integral members having cells formed therein for receiving components of light fixtures. The light bar has two lighting tiers. The lights on the lower tier are received in the cells of the trays. The tops of the trays provide a platform for mounting lights on the upper tier. Alternatively, the upper-tier lights may be mounted on the upper shell of the housing of the light bar. Snap-fit fasteners are formed on the trays for mounting components of the lights. In one configuration, the light bar includes a speaker which has a driver mounted inside the light bar housing and a horn which fits in an opening in the housing and is coupled to the driver for transmitting audio signals.

  • Patent number: 5426417
Abstract: A warning light assembly is provided that includes a simple drive train for accomplishing an 180.degree. or more oscillation of a light beam. By advantageously utilizing a speed-reduction mechanism, a transmission for converting rotary motion to oscillating motion and a coupling for multiplying the angle of oscillation, the drive provides an inexpensive and rugged enabling design the warning light assembly to oscillate a light beam through angles heretofore unattainable.

  • Patent number: 5207496
Abstract: A mirror assembly for use with a warning light which has a reflector that is capable of rotating a beam of light emanating from a lamp located at its focal point. The mirror assembly comprises a first set of first, second and third mirrors mounted to the attachment for reflecting the intercepted light in a predetermined direction, where the reflections occur first from the first mirror, then from the second mirror and finally from the third mirror; and a port between the first and third mirrors for passing light to the second mirror such that the reflected beam from the second mirror is further from the focal point than the reflected beams from the first and third mirrors. A warning light is also provided which may be used either alone or in combination with the aforesaid mirror assembly.

  • Patent number: 5097397
Abstract: A light bar is provided for mounting to a roof of an emergency vehicle such that the signalling devices comprising the light bar are distributed across the roof to form a non-linear pattern. A dome assembly covers the signalling devices and also forms a non-linear pattern traversing the roof. The light bar provides for enhanced visibility at angles approaching 90.degree. to the heading of the vehicle. Moreover, the non-linear pattern of the signalling devices allows the light bar to provide a signalling pattern whose warning effect can be alternatively directionalized into different distinct zones about the vehicle. In a preferred embodiment, each of the signalling devices is contained in a module comprising a base and a dome such that enhanced transmittance of light is provided at angles approaching 90.degree. from the heading of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4511880
Abstract: A twin oscillating light assembly for use on police cars, ambulances and other emergency vehicles on which a warning light is required, the light assembly includes two light sources which each oscillate both vertically and horizontally and together produce an X-pattern of light especially useful in clearing the right-of-way ahead of a vehicle on which the light is mounted.

  • Patent number: 4319306
Abstract: An electrically synchronized rotating light system comprising two or more rotating light assemblies each having an associated drive motor, there being in one embodiment a master light unit including a rotating light and drive motor which rotates the light at a predetermined rate, and one or more slave light units each including a rotating light and a slave drive motor, the master and slave units being electrically wired so the speed of rotation and phase of each slave unit is synchronized with the master unit without need for mechanical connections between the units. In another embodiment, two or more slave lights are provided, each having an associated slave drive motor, in combination with a master drive motor not associated with a corresponding light. In a further embodiment, each rotatable light has an associated motor mounted directly on the lampholder for conjoint rotation with the lampholder.
