  • Patent number: 10107904
Abstract: X-band and P-band synthetic aperture radars are used to simultaneously gather swaths of reflected radar data over a specific area simultaneously. The P-band is used to penetrate surface clutter that may be on the top of an ice formation as well as to penetrate an ice mass. X-band is used to map surface clutter on the top of an ice formation as well as to map the top of snow that may appear on an ice formation. Digital elevation maps of the top of the snow or ice clutter, the top of the ice, and the bottom of the ice and or ice thickness are constructed. By summing these various digital elevation maps a measurement of the thickness of sea ice can be determined. Further analysis of DEM, MAG and CRV layers provides an indication of the quality of the ice, for example cracks and pressure ridges, and its weak points.

  • Patent number: 6390659
Abstract: A disposable light handle is designed for removable attachment to manually adjustable light fixtures employed in sterile medical settings. The light handle includes an elongated handle body, having one end closed, and an opposite end provided with a threaded portion. At the junction of handle body and threaded portion is an integrally formed circular shield that projects therefrom to provide a guard against contact between the hand of a user and the light fixture. The shield is sufficiently resilient and flexible to permit opposite sides of an outer periphery to bend into an overlying relationship to the handle body for minimizing width in storage. The shield is provided with loops located diametrically opposed to one another on the periphery of the shield. Connector projections are diametrically opposed to one another along the length of the handle body, and positioned to releasably receive thereon the loops when the shield is bent into an overlying relationship.

  • Patent number: 5848993
Abstract: A bulb syringe providing for uniform, hence repeatable, deflation/inflation of the bulb and a tactile-discernible limit of deflation of the bulb and resultant control over the consistency of degree of suction produced with the deflated bulb is allowed to inflate in response to its resiliency and memory. The bulb syringe includes a bottom portion having a spout and a top portion whose resiliency is enhanced by a plurality of ribs. The top and bottom portions are provided with equatorial shoulders which are joined and which establish a tactile-discernible limit of deflation of the top portion. In one embodiment, the bottom portion is provided with a pair of lugs on the outer surface therefor for receipt of the palmar surfaces of two adjacent fingers of a user. Preferably, the syringe is transparent or at least sufficiently translucent as permits the visual inspection of any fluid contained therein.
