Publication number: 20180138951Abstract: A method, in a network node (20, 800) serving K scheduled user equipments (UEs), of selecting a subset of antennas from a plurality of available antennas (815) for use in communicating with the K scheduled UEs (50d) while reducing interference to Kv victim UEs (50v), each of the antennas characterized by a channel vector describing gains between the antenna on the one hand and the scheduled and victim UEs on the other hand. The method includes repeating the following steps until at least K+Kv antennas have been selected: for each antenna of a plurality of unselected antennas of the plurality of antennas, generating a composite matrix of channel gains between selected ones of the antennas including the antenna on one hand and the scheduled and victim UEs on the other hand (204); and selecting one of the plurality of unselected antennas that minimizes a function of antenna gains from the selected ones of the antennas to the scheduled and victim UEs (206).Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2016Publication date: May 17, 2018Inventors: Gary BOUDREAU, Muhammad HANIF, Seyed Hossein SEYEDMEHDI, Edward SICH, Hong-Chuan YANG

Patent number: 9819318Abstract: Systems and methods for compensating for non-linearity of a non-linear subsystem using predistortion are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a non-linear subsystem and a predistorter configured to effect predistortion of an input signal of the non-linear subsystem such that the predistortion compensates for a non-linear characteristic of the non-linear subsystem. In addition, the system includes a narrowband filter that filters a feedback signal that is representative of an output signal of the non-linear subsystem to provide a filtered feedback signal, and an adaptor that adaptively configures the predistorter based on the filtered feedback signal and a reference signal that is representative of an input signal of the non-linear subsystem. By utilizing the filtered feedback signal, rather than the feedback signal, a complexity, and therefore, cost of the adaptor is substantially reduced.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2011Date of Patent: November 14, 2017Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Chunlong Bai, Chunyun Jian, Edward Sich

Patent number: 9768734Abstract: Embodiments of a Doherty power amplifier that maintain efficiency over a large operating average power range are disclosed. In one embodiment, the Doherty power amplifier includes reconfigurable main and auxiliary output matching networks and a fixed combining network. The reconfigurable main and auxiliary output matching networks can be reconfigured such that together the reconfigurable main output matching network, the reconfigurable auxiliary output matching network, and the fixed combining network provide proper load modulation for multiple different back-off power levels. As a result, the Doherty power amplifier maintains high efficiency over an extended back-off power level range.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2015Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Mohamed, Slim Boumaiza, Edward Sich

Patent number: 9635609Abstract: Wireless devices, transmitters, systems and methods are provided that have a narrow band signaling channel and a wide band channel, for example an OFDM channel. In order to save power, the wireless device is nominally powered down with the exception of a receiver specific to the narrow band signaling channel. Once instructed to do so over the narrow band signaling channel, the wireless device wakes up the rest of its wide band receive circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2016Date of Patent: April 25, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Shiquan Wu, Wen Tong, Claude Royer, Edward Sich

Patent number: 9374044Abstract: Systems and methods for compensating for a non-linear characteristic of a non-linear filter in a transmit chain of a transmitter using predistortion are disclosed. In one embodiment, a transmitter includes a power amplifier configured to amplify a radio frequency input signal to provide an amplified radio frequency signal, a non-linear filter configured to filter the amplified radio frequency signal to provide an output signal of the transmitter, and a predistorter configured effect predistortion of the amplified radio frequency signal, where the predistortion compensates for a non-linear characteristic of the non-linear filter. In this manner, the output signal is as if the non-linear filter were a linear, or substantially liner, filter. The predistortion applied by the predistorter may be fixed or adaptive.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2011Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Chunyun Jian, Chunlong Bai, Edward Sich

Patent number: 9331882Abstract: The present disclosure advantageously provides methods and systems for crest factor reduction of multi-standard carrier aggregated signals. In one embodiment, a method of providing crest factor reduction for a carrier aggregated signal is provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises estimating a peak of a carrier aggregated signal based on a summation of instantaneous amplitudes of baseband representations of a number of component carriers of the carrier aggregated signal. The number of component carriers of the carrier aggregated signal is greater than or equal to 2. The method further comprises clipping the baseband representations of the component carriers if the estimated peak of the carrier aggregated signal is greater than a predefined clipping threshold.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2014Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Bilel Fehri, Slim Boumaiza, Edward Sich
