  • Publication number: 20180089819
Abstract: A method and apparatus for inspecting an object in a virtual reality environment. Computed tomography scan data for the object is identified. A first group of dimensions for a model of the object and a second group of dimensions for the computed tomography scan data for the object are adjusted such that the first group of dimensions for a first group of features in the model corresponds to the second group of dimensions for a second group of features in the computed tomography scan data. The model and the computed tomography scan data are displayed by a game engine in the virtual reality environment on a display system. Graphical indicators in the virtual reality environment are displayed when a difference is present between features in the model and the features in the computed tomography scan data, enabling identifying the difference between the object and the model of the object.

  • Publication number: 20180088250
Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying a three-dimensional radiograph in a security scanner. A first X-ray image of an object is generated by the security scanner from a first viewpoint. A second X-ray image of the object is generated by the security scanner from a second viewpoint. The first X-ray image and the second X-ray image form a stereogram. The stereogram is displayed by the security scanner on a display system for the security scanner such that a first eye of a viewer sees the first X-ray image in the stereogram and a second eye of the viewer sees the second X-ray image in the stereogram. A parallax between the first viewpoint and the second viewpoint in the stereogram results in a three-dimensional visualization of the object on the display system for the security scanner.

  • Publication number: 20160209335
Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying a material in an object. An image of the object generated from energy passing through the object is obtained by a computer system. The computer system estimates attenuations for pixels in a sensor system from the image of the object to form estimated attenuations. The estimated attenuations represent a loss of the energy that occurs from the energy passing through the object. The computer system also identifies the material in the object using the estimated attenuations and known attenuation information for identifying the material in the object.

  • Publication number: 20150035843
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing operation of graphics processing units in a computer system. A processing thread in the computer system controls processing of a set of sinogram data by a graphics processing unit to form a set of graphics data. An output thread in the computer system controls writing of the set of graphics data to a storage system. The graphics processing unit is available to perform processing of another set of sonogram data while the set of graphics data is written to the storage system such that the increased availability of a plurality of graphics processing units is present.
