  • Patent number: 9878728
Abstract: A coupler pivot. A coupler (10) comprises at least a first gimbal (31; 32) defining a pivot that is secured to a mounting (41) for securing to a frame member of a vehicle, the pivot also being secured to a buffer column (39) part of which protrudes on an opposite side of the pivot to the mounting (41) such that the buffer column (39) is moveable relative to the mounting (41) with at least two degrees of freedom. The buffer column (39) defines a free (42) end that is remote from the mounting (41) and that is securable to a further member.

  • Patent number: 4473236
Abstract: For a vehicle such as a bicycle having a frame and at least one drive wheel, a driving sprocket, and an endless chain connecting the sprocket to the drive wheel, an improved propelling mechanism having two longer than usual pedal arms pivotally mounted on either side of the frame for swinging movement over an arc of less than 180.degree., and a slip-clutch between each pedal arm and the driving sprocket. The mechanism is such as to positively raise one pedal arm as the other is depressed. Preferably, first and second arcuate toothed members are secured to the respective pedal arms, and a first gear meshes with the first toothed member. The first gear is fixedly mounted to a transverse rotary shaft on which is also fixedly mounted a second gear. The second gear meshes with a third gear which in turn meshes with the second toothed member.

  • Patent number: 4445701
Abstract: There is provided a vehicle which includes a frame, a steerable wheel mounted on the frame and at least one further wheel mounted for free rotation on the frame. A flywheel is mounted for rotation adjacent one of the wheels. The vehicle includes means for imparting rotation to the flywheel, and a clutch plate rotatably and coaxially mounted adjacent the same wheel to which the flywheel is adjacent. Speed-reduction means allows rotation of the flywheel to rotate the clutch plate at a faster rate than the flywheel, and a frictionless clutch is provided between the clutch plate and the adjacent wheel.
