Patent number: 10465487Abstract: An outer casing string, including a surface casing head, and associated installation method. In some embodiments, the surface casing head includes an outer tubular member insertable through a diverter of an installed conductor system, an inner tubular member at least partially disposed within and moveable relative to the outer tubular member, and a sleeve ring rotatably coupled to the inner tubular. The outer tubular member has an annular recess. The sleeve ring includes a snap ring that is displaceable between an extended position and a retracted position. In the extended position, at least a portion of the snap ring is received within the annular recess, and the outer tubular member is axially immovable relative to the inner tubular member. In the retracted position, no portion of the snap ring is received within the annular recess, and the outer tubular member is axially moveable relative to the inner tubular member.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2017Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: Cameron International CorporationInventors: Gavin Paul Robottom, Edward T. Patent number: 5421407Abstract: A tubing hanger (2) is suspended in a spool (1) by a composite load support ring (7,8). Upon running-in, the hanger expands the ring into engagement with complementary grooves (34) in the spool wall. By making the load support ring from individual split rings (7,8), a radially large bearing area is provided for supporting the hanger and/or a seal, whilst enabling an appreciable expansion of the ring without it yielding beyond its elastic limit.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1993Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.Inventor: Edward T. Thornburrow

Patent number: 5209256Abstract: A sealing arrangement in which a sealing member 25 seals against an annular sealing surface 20. The sealing member 25 has an annular sealing surface 29 the axis of which is offset relative to the rotational axis of the surface 20. Thus when the annular surface 20 rotates the area swept out by the sealing member surface is larger than the area of its sealing surface. The arrangement has application to seals for gate valve stems.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1992Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.Inventor: Edward T. Thornburrow

Patent number: 4875523Abstract: The invention relates to a compact valve removal tool with a fixed crosshead (18) to be mounted on a pipeline end, such as a wellhead spool outlet (3), and a moving crosshead (19) which is axially slidable, the fixed crosshead accommodating an axially slidable and rotatable rod (16) and gripping means (50) for holding the rod, and the moving crosshead having drive means (23, 24) for advancing and retracting it to enable rod extension pieces (17) to be fitted or removed, the fixed crosshead also having safety stops (58) movable into the line behind the rod or behind a rod extension to block the path of the rod if the griping means failed. Preferably, the moving crosshead (10) cooperates with further safety means (60-72) to prevent operation of the gripping means except in predetermined, safe positions. The tool could be useful for operations other than plug insertion, such as milling a valve gate.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1988Date of Patent: October 24, 1989Assignee: Cameron Iron Works USA, Inc.Inventor: Edward T.
