  • Patent number: 5718658
Abstract: Apparatus and method for skate training exercise comprising arms of relatively long length pivotably mounted on a frame. The user's foot is secured in a stirrup on the arm opposite the pivot point. A resistance means is provided to provide resistance as the user pushes his foot away from the body along an arcuate path defined by the arm in simulated skating stroke. A return means is provided to assist the user in returning his foot along the arcuate path after predetermined angle is traversed. Various resistant means include electro-magnetic, fly wheel-fan and weight stack.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 1994
Date of Patent: February 17, 1998
    Assignee: Town Sports International Inc.
    Inventors: Kenneth Miller, Edward Trainor
  • Patent number: 5407411
Abstract: An apparatus, kit and method for stretching and strengthening the muscles of the lower back and legs of a person. The apparatus includes a backboard and a belt to restrain the person's pelvis. A single cable is provided with sliding handles, a pulley guiding system, and leg supporting slings. In a stretching exercise segment, the handles are slowly pulled by the person to raise the legs and thereby stretch the supporting muscles of the spine. In a strengthening exercise segment, the person's feet are pushed toward the floor against the resistance provided by the muscles of the arms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 12, 1993
Date of Patent: April 18, 1995
    Assignee: Backsmart, Inc.
