  • Patent number: 6429852
Abstract: The device comfortably supports the hand of the user while the thumb and fingers are associated with keys, a trackball, and a scrolling wheel carried on the device. The overall configuration of the device and the arrangement of these actuators permits the user to operate all of the functions provided by the actuators while the forearm is in a neutral posture zone between pronation and supination of the forearm, and the wrist and fingers are minimally extended and comfortably flexed, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6203507
Abstract: A deflectable catheter comprises a catheter body, a tip section and a control handle. The Control handle, which is preferably curved, comprises a housing having a generally hollow interior, a piston receiving assembly at least partially within the interior of the housing, and a piston. The piston receiving assembly is afforded rotational movement but not longitudinal movement relative to the housing and comprises a generally tubular member defining a piston chamber. The piston is fixedly attached to the proximal end of the catheter body and extends into the piston chamber of the piston receiving assembly, wherein the piston is afforded longitudinal movement but not rotational movement relative to the piston receiving assembly. Rotation of the piston relative to the housing correspondingly rotates the piston receiving assembly, catheter body and tip section. A puller wire extends from the control handle, through a lumen in the catheter body and into a lumen in the tip section.

  • Patent number: 6188407
Abstract: A reconfigurable user interface for a modular patient monitor which selectively populates menus for operator selection based on the parameters which are available at any given time. Due to event processing, when a parameter module is added or removed from the system, the reconfigurable user interface is updated immediately to reflect the addition or subtraction of the associated parameter. A flash box in each menu provides shortcuts to the most likely menu option in response to asynchronous events such as alarms and the like. The flash box also assists the operator with the particular steps that must be followed to properly setup or operate a particular feature of the system. Since the menus are not modal, an operator may navigate the menus without making any selections or changing the state of the device.

  • Patent number: 5781408
Abstract: A computer system includes an exterior casing having an opening therein to permit user access to peripheral devices, such as floppy drives, CD ROM drives, tape drives, or optical drives. A door driven by a reversible motor slides along the exterior casing to open and close the opening in the exterior casing. A user may activate a sensor provided on the exterior casing to selectively open or close the door. The sensor may be a light-sensitive sensor, a voice-activated sensor, or a proximity sensor. Alternatively or in addition, the user may open and close the door via a system processor, for example, by entering commands via a keyboard. The door may slide along tracks within the exterior casing. In addition, the door may be locked in a closed position and unlocked to allow opening.

  • Patent number: 5653887
Abstract: An extracorporeal blood processing system is disclosed which includes a variety of novel components and which may be operated in accordance with a variety of novel methodologies. For instance, the system includes a graphical operator interface which directs the operator through various aspects of the apheresis procedure. Moreover, the system also includes a variety of features relating to loading a blood processing vessel into a blood processing channel and removing the same after completion of the procedure. Furthermore, the system also includes a variety of features relating to utilizing a blood priming of at least portions of the apheresis system in preparation for the procedure. In addition, the system includes a variety of features enhancing the performance of the apheresis system, including the interrelationship between the blood processing vessel and the blood processing vessel and the utilization of high packing factors for the procedure.
