    Abstract: Cyclopentadienes are alkylated by initially reacting primary or secondary alcohols at elevated temperatures in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide with removal of water to form dimers of said primary or secondary alcohols, and thereafter reacting said alcohol dimers with a cyclopentadiene to alkylate said cyclopentadiene.
