  • Patent number: 8963641
Abstract: A differential amplifier circuit that includes a negative resistor in parallel to synthesize a larger source resistance is disclosed. In one or more implementations, a differential amplifier circuit includes a first transistor and a second transistor. The first transistor is configured to receive a first differential input and the second transistor is configured to receive a second differential input. The differential amplifier circuit also includes a third transistor and a fourth transistor that form a pair of cross-coupled transistors coupled to the first transistor and the second transistor. The pair of cross-coupled transistors are configured to generate a negative impedance at an output node, and the negative impedance, combined with an impedance of the first transistor, is configured to generate a sufficient termination impedance for a transmission line electrically connected to the output node.

  • Patent number: 8041841
Abstract: Method and interface for configuring a link is described. A transceiver has configuration registers. The configuration registers are read to determine capability of the transceiver. An application is selected, and the configuration registers of the transceiver are configured responsive to the application selected. A protocol having initialization, transmit and receive portions is described to facilitate configuration operations, such as reads and writes of configuration registers, for such a link.

  • Patent number: 7206556
Abstract: Modification of transmission control parameters is prevented during data transmission in a wireless transmitter. A lockout unit is used to prevent modification of the transmission control parameters during data transmission and allow modification of the transmission control parameters when data is not being transmitted. When the wireless transmitter is included in a computing system a software driver for the wireless transmitter does not need to include a software lockout mechanism. Furthermore, the wireless transmitter including the lockout unit may be tested as a standalone device, facilitating regulatory agency certification as a modular transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7057449
Abstract: A method of canceling noise in analog circuits is described along with noise cancellation circuits. Analog circuits are sensitive to noise. Especially in mixed signal environments where digital circuits and analog circuits are combined, the noise generated by relatively noisy digital circuits often cause the analog circuits to produce incorrect output signals. Instead of shielding or separating the susceptible analog circuits from noisy digital circuits, additional circuitry is added where one of the added circuits, denoted as the noise separator circuit, produce only the noise component of the output signal, the first output, of the analog circuit adversely affected by the noise. Then, another circuit is used to subtract the noise from the first output, thereby producing a noise-free output signal. Alternatively, the noise separator circuit can be made to produce the inverse of the first output, including the inverse of the noise.

  • Patent number: 6779069
Abstract: Apparatus for a baseband-media interface is described. More particularly, in an embodiment, a baseband processor, a medium access controller and a baseband-media interface are provided with a input/output controller as an integrated circuit. In another instance, a baseband processor, a medium access controller and a baseband-media interface are provided on a printed circuit board and coupled to an input/output controller via a bus. The printed circuit board may be a system board or a peripheral card.

  • Patent number: 6198153
Abstract: The present invention provides for a shielded capacitor in a digital CMOS fabrication process. The shield capacitor comprises a first surface (also known as a top plate) and a second surface (the bottom plate). The bottom plate has two portions which are connected, and the two portions of the bottom plate are positioned to sandwich the top plate in between the portions. A polysilicon layer is fabricated between the plates and the substrate of the semiconductor to isolate the plates from the substrate. To build the shielded capacitor, the polysilicon layer is fabricated first, then the plates are built on top of the polysilicon layer. The polysilicon layer is silicized and is often connected to the ground.

  • Patent number: 6016114
Abstract: A analog-to-digital conversion apparatus and method for mobile communication devices are disclosed by the present invention. Because the conventional CMOS process does not allow for high order anti-aliasing circuits to be fabricated with digital circuits on the same chip, a new apparatus had to be developed to use low order anti-aliasing filters for the analog-to-digital conversion. The apparatus of the present invention includes a low order anti-aliasing circuit, a delta-sigma converter, and post-conversion filters. The post conversion filters include a decimation circuit, a droop correction filter, and an offset adjust circuit. In this implementation, a low order analog anti-aliasing filter can be used along with a delta-sigma converter and post-conversion filters to eliminate the need for high order analog anti-aliasing filters. Another aspect of the present invention is the duplication of the circuits to process the incoming signals. The duplicate circuit is fed a null signal to process the noise only.
