  • Patent number: 7933716
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for an azimuthal equidistant projection (AEP) aircraft navigational display. The apparatus comprises a generator providing the aircraft's current latitude and longitude (?1,?0), a user input for providing the desired map radius R, a display for presenting the navigational information, a map data source providing topographical information associated with geo-spatial coordinates, and a controller and memory coupled to the generator, data source, input and display for providing data transformations. Map data containing topographical information associated with each geo-spatial coordinate is obtained from the map data source for an area of approximately radius R from (?1,?0). Using the controller and memory, the geo-spatial coordinates are converted to AEP spatial coordinates so that the topographical information is now associated with such AEP spatial coordinates.

  • Publication number: 20090019382
Abstract: A system and method for simulating side angle radar in an aircraft. The system includes a display, an input device for receiving user input and generating an input signal, an aerial photograph database, a terrain elevation database, and a processing device in signal communication with the display and the input device, the processing device configured to receive the input signal from the input device and produce an image on the display based on the input signal and information contained in the aerial photograph and terrain elevation databases. The method includes receiving input from a user, accessing aerial photograph and digital terrain elevation data based on the received input, and displaying an image that simulates side angle radar (SAR) imagery based on the accessed aerial photograph and terrain elevation data.

  • Publication number: 20080133134
Abstract: A personal situational analysis system provides an enhanced situational awareness through a display of the location and environmental aspects of a network of similar units. It senses the local environment and provides time-stamped environmental data to a common processing unit. It is compact enough for use as a mobile device moving through a changing environment in a three dimensional space. The sensing and display unit displays environmental information pertinent to the user to determine their future actions, based on situational analysis (SA), to avoid collisions, plot ideal paths to a specific location and avoid hazardous situations. A data analysis unit is part of the solution and may be a replication of the mobile hardware or larger, more powerful version. The data analysis unit provides the situational analysis and information update to the mobile hardware on a periodic basis.

  • Patent number: 4899293
Abstract: A method for storage and retrieval of digital map data representative of a tessellated sphere including five zones. Firstly, the number of tessellations for each zone is defined. Secondly, the range of each zone is defined. Next, the radius of the sphere is defined. A sphereical data base is then created by warping the digital map data into the spherical data base by latitude and longitude. Finally, data from the spherical data base is retrieved and the data may be displayed on a cathode ray tube (CRT) display or a flat panel liquid crystal display.
