  • Publication number: 20060239424
Abstract: The present invention provides presence management to a multimodal communication network. A unified messaging system, providing the ability to deliver messages across multiple modes of communication, is integrated with a presence managing system. The presence management system provides an ability to locate a recipient of a message according to a stored schedule. The unified messaging system retrieves contact information from a presence management system. Upon received the message, the recipient can respond along the established line of communication. Multiple modes of communication comprises telephone, wireless telephone, electronic mail, pager, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), video, audio, picture, among others.

  • Publication number: 20060235929
Abstract: A technique that allows a recipient of an electronic message to be notified that the electronic message has been received for the recipient. A notification message containing an address of the recipient is used to notify an intelligent gateway in a communications network that an electronic message has been received for the recipient. The intelligent gateway uses the notification message to identify a telephone number associated with the recipient. The intelligent gateway uses the identified telephone number to call the recipient and rings the recipient's telephone using a distinctive ring to notify the recipient that an electronic message has been received for the recipient.

  • Publication number: 20060236088
Abstract: A download image containing an encryption agent and a soft key software routine is downloaded to a communication unit coupled to a communications network. The encryption agent enables the communication unit to encrypt/decrypt communications handled by the unit. The soft key routine enables/disables encryption at the unit based on a selection of a soft key on the unit. If encryption is enabled, the encryption agent encrypts/decrypts communications transferred between the communication unit and the communication network. If encryption is disabled, the communications are transferred “in the clear” between the communication unit and the communications network.

  • Publication number: 20060229088
Abstract: A system and method is discussed for targeting a message to an intended listener over a public announcement system by selecting a single broadcast location, such as a speaker, from a plurality of broadcast locations. A typical method for locating a listener uses a method of triangulation of a wireless device located on the listener. A broadcast location is selected from distance calculations that determine which broadcast location is closest to the listener. Each broadcast location has an associated Internet Protocol (IP) address. The message is delivered to the IP address of the closest broadcast location. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology can be used to selectively deliver the message.

  • Publication number: 20060221970
Abstract: A method of using a packet-switched network can be used to deliver broadcast messages using a VoIP connection. Packets within the broadcast message can be intelligently routed to intended recipients based on one or more addresses for a logical segment of an organization (e.g., employees of a department), a physical segment (e.g., a building, floor of a building, meeting room, etc.), individuals, or any combination thereof. The broadcast message may be heard by a significantly higher fraction of intended recipients compared to all recipients because the routing of packets of the packet-switched network can reduce the number of unintended recipients as would occur when using a conventional analog public address system. Also, existing infrastructure can be used and does not require speaker wires to pass through walls or ceilings.

  • Publication number: 20060198374
Abstract: A computer network address for use in connection with a computer network is disclosed. The computer network address comprises an application name field, a private network address to identify a destination node within a remote network for which the application identified by the application name field is to be executed, a delimiter symbol, and a unique internet protocol address of a remotely located gateway. The remotely located gateway receives a routed data item before the routed data item is forwarded to the destination node within the remote network. The delimiter symbol is to separate the private network address from the unique internet protocol address of the remotely located gateway.

  • Publication number: 20060173957
Abstract: Electronic data files are broadly characterized as “messages” and a social network is constructed by analyzing one or more messages exchanged between various entities. Additionally, messages from structured and/or unstructured data stores are correlated using one or more common/related data elements from two or more messages. Further, the social network and the concepts contained in the exchanged messages (i.e. semantic network) can be visualized using a series of multi-aspect viewing tools. Finally, in conjunction with the social network and the semantic network, a message network based on the chronological relationship of the messages (event network) can be constructed to analyze and visualize how the messages relate to each other in a time-based reference model. Once visualized, the relationship of the concepts contained in the messages as well as the relationship between the entities and the timing involved in the exchange of messages can be analyzed for desired information.

  • Publication number: 20060164409
Abstract: A system and method for providing a dynamic user interface for a dense three-dimensional scene is presented. Clusters are placed in a three-dimensional scene arranged proximal to each other such cluster to form a cluster spine. Each cluster includes one or more concepts. Each cluster spine is projected into a two-dimensional display relative to a stationary perspective. Controls operating on a view of the cluster spines in the display are presented. A compass logically framing the cluster spines within the display is provided. A label to identify one such concept in one or more of the cluster spines appearing within the compass is generated. A plurality of slots in the two-dimensional display positioned circumferentially around the compass is defined. Each label is assigned to the slot outside of the compass for the cluster spine having a closest angularity to the slot.

  • Publication number: 20060036517
Abstract: A method is disclosed for providing information related to goods available for purchase in a building. The method includes establishing a plurality of boundary zones within a Wi-Fi network and storing product information related to the goods available for purchase that are located within each of the plurality of boundary zones. In a particular embodiment, a first set of product information is provided to a Wi-Fi device. The first set of product information can be specific to goods that are located in the same boundary zone as the Wi-Fi device. The location of the Wi-Fi device is monitored and movement of the Wi-Fi device between a first boundary zone and a second boundary zone is detected. A second set of product information can be provided to the Wi-Fi device after detecting the Wi-Fi device moving to the second boundary zones.

  • Publication number: 20050277406
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for facilitating enhanced call awareness. A system incorporating teachings of the present disclosure may include an interface that receives a signal associated with a call to a telephone number. A call information engine may be coupled to the interface and may recognize that a party to the call subscribes to an enhanced call activity service. In some cases, the party may be a called party or a calling party, and the activity may include an incoming call to the telephone number, an outgoing call, a missed call, or a waiting voicemail message. A memory may maintain a data network address for the party, and a messaging engine may initiate sending of a message containing call information to the data network address. The message may be sent in response to a trigger signal output by a notification engine without consideration for whether or not a telephone line associated with the telephone number is busy.

  • Publication number: 20050102428
Abstract: To support IP routing table longest-prefix matching, a (ternary content-addressable) memory is managed by assigning its locations to interleaved pages and gaps. Each page has zero or more locations assigned to it, where all entries in a page have the same prefix length. Each gap has zero or more empty locations assigned to it. The pages are organized by descending prefix length. Associated with each page is a free-list identifying empty locations in that page. An “invariant” rule may dictate that first and last page locations cannot be empty. Whenever an entry is deleted from the first or last location in a page, that location is shifted (i.e., reassigned) to the adjacent gap. The direction chosen to search for an empty location for inserting a new entry is based on a global measure of the relative fullness of memory regions above and below the new entry's page.
