  • Patent number: 7181398
Abstract: A speech recognition system provides a subword decoder and a dictionary lookup to process a spoken input. In a first stage of processing, the subword decoder decodes the speech input based on subword units or particles and identifies hypothesized subword sequences using a particle dictionary and particle language model, but independently of a word dictionary or word vocabulary. Further stages of processing involve a particle to word graph expander and a word decoder. The particle to word graph expander expands the subword representation produced by the subword decoder into a word graph of word candidates using a word dictionary. The word decoder uses the word dictionary and a word language model to determine a best sequence of word candidates from the word graph that is most likely to match the words of the spoken input.

  • Publication number: 20060260407
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided which employs phase or amplitude modulated electromagnetic probing waves (in optical or microwave frequency ranges or both) emitted toward a vibrating object. The optical and/or microwave probing signals remotely irradiate an object of interest. The object reflects and/or scatters the probing wave toward to a receiver. The reflected/scattered modulated signal is received with a remote sensor (receiver). Vibration causes additional phase modulation to the probing wave. At the receiving end, the signal is demodulated to extract and analyze the vibration waveform. The present invention can be utilized for nondestructive testing, monitoring of technological processes, structural integrity, noise and vibration control, mine detection, etc.

  • Publication number: 20050248331
Abstract: A low dropout (LDO) PFET regulator circuit is disclosed for operating in two modes of operation. For higher supply voltage potentials the LDO PFET regulator circuit operates normally, as supply voltage potential drops, the LDO PFET regulator operates in a second mode of operation where a decision circuit determines whether to supply a first boost current thereto in order to compensate for the reduced transimpedance of the first PFET.

  • Publication number: 20050093630
Abstract: A power amplifier circuit is disclosed having a first amplification stage and a second amplification stage. The first amplification stage is biased using a controllable current source that provides a variable bias current thereto. A control circuit is provided for controlling the variable bias current in dependence upon the supply voltage and temperature of the power amplifier circuit. The control signal varies the variable bias current in dependence upon the supply voltage varying between first and second potential, where each potential supplies sufficient potential for operation of the power amplifier circuit.

  • Publication number: 20050051703
Abstract: Power supply noise affects the performance of many amplifier circuits. Power supply noise rejection circuits are typically used in conjunction with amplifier circuits to reduce the effects of the noise. Unfortunately, the main issue with a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) is that it has a single input port and a single output port, and the output ports are often required to be of a differential type in order to interface with a differential input post amplifier circuit. As a result, the conversion from single input port operation to a dual input port configuration for differential operation is often the cause of poor power supply noise rejection. A circuit is thus provided that overcomes the limitations in the prior art by providing a differential TIA for use with a filter circuit and differential amplifier that overcomes the limitations of the prior art.

  • Patent number: 6728493
Abstract: An optical receiver arrangement comprises a phase locked loop incorporating a voltage controlled oscillator whereby the loop can be matched in frequency to a received signal frequency. A frequency detector associated with the loop produces an output comprising first or second pulses indicative of whether the loop frequency is above or below the received signal frequency. A control circuit determines a time averaged measure of difference between the loop frequency and the received signal frequency, and issues a loss of lock alarm if this averaged difference exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 5636035
Abstract: A method and apparatus for conducting laser absorption spectroscopy uses a frequency tunable laser aligned to pass a laser beam through a sample volume and to an optical detector. A two-step modulation is used to generate frequency components that may be used to both lock the tunable laser to the absorbance signal, and generate an output signal proportional to the absorbance signal. The method includes frequency modulating the tunable laser at a first frequency while further modulating the tunable laser with a triangular waveform having a second frequency, and generating a feedback control signal based upon an antisymmetrical signal demodulated from the optical detector using a first predetermined harmonic of the second frequency. The tunable laser is locked to the absorbance signal with the feedback control signal. An output signal proportional to the absorbance signal is generated using a symmetrical signal demodulated using a second predetermined harmonic of the second or triangular waveform frequency.

  • Patent number: 5267019
Abstract: A method and apparatus using a frequency tunable laser to generate a beam which passes through a sample cell and onto an optical detector wherein the tunable laser is modulated at a predetermined frequency which has the undesired effect of producing a periodic interference fringe near an absorption induced signal. An additional level of modulation is applied to the laser beam by a triangular waveform having a predetermined peak-to-peak amplitude and frequency. The triangular waveform peak-to-peak amplitude produces a frequency swing of the laser beam so as to generate from the periodic interference fringe, a signal having reduced components near the absorption induced signal. The signal at the optical detector is demodulated by a lock-in amplifier tuned to a predetermined harmonic of the frequency of the triangular waveform.
