  • Publication number: 20100170617
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a sonar projector is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: bonding a flat piezo-ceramic plate to a flexible conducting sheet; dicing the plate to form an assembly comprising a matrix of piezo-ceramic pegs bonded to the flexible conducting sheet, the pegs being separated by kerfs; bending the assembly to a predetermined curvature, thereby expanding the kerfs; filling the expanded kerfs with a filler material; and applying conductive material to the exposed surfaces of the pegs, such that the conductive material and the flexible conducting sheet in combination form electrodes operable to apply a voltage to the piezo-ceramic pegs. Methods of manufacturing a curved piezo-ceramic structure are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7637082
Abstract: Devices and a method for releasing gas in a container after closing and sealing to pressurize and/or prevent or counteract buckling thereof, and or provide structural rigidity and strength thereto and or release components. The method introduces a reactive agent into the container after filling and before sealing. The reactive agent is controlled to react to provide a gas and optionally components, which a) provides a positive pressure to prevent or counteract buckling and provide structural rigidity to the container, and b) and or changes the state or characteristics of the headspace and or contents of the closed container. The devices include a closure, a cap and a container. The reactive agent is brought to chemical reaction by moistening, heating, catalyst and the like. The closure includes the reactive agent and is disposed in the container. The external trigger is a device that emits energy that provides heat to the reactive agent to stimulate the chemical reaction.

  • Publication number: 20080053664
Abstract: An inflatable element utilizing a solid or particulate laden fluid as an expansion media. A fluid component of the solid or particulate laden fluid is exhausted from a defined area of the element to leave substantially only particulate matter therein to maintain the expanded state of the seal. A method for sealing includes pumping a solid laden or a particulate laden fluid to an expandable, pressurized element. A fluid component of the solid or particulate laden fluid is removed from the expandable element with substantially solid material comprised to maintain the expanded element in the expanded condition.

  • Publication number: 20070144731
Abstract: Setting mechanisms for downhole tools are described that take advantage of hydrostatic pressure in the wellbore which is harnessed to set a tool after exposure to well fluids for a given time or temperature defeats a lock and allows hydrostatic forces to trigger the setting of the tool. Alternatively, some other biasing source is released to set the downhole tool after exposure to well fluids for a time or a temperature and time defeats a lock and allows the biasing source to set the tool. While applications to packers are preferred, other downhole tools can be set in his manner removing the need for an inner string, dropping a ball on a seat or pressurizing the wellbore to achieve the setting of the downhole tool.

  • Publication number: 20060081401
Abstract: A sealing device for downhole use, one of which is for casing, when drilling with casing, which allows the casing to be closed off if the bottom hole assembly needs to come out for any reason. In one embodiment, the internal packer is triggered to set in a variety of ways upon removal of the bottom hole assembly. It can be drilled out when the new bottom hole assembly is run in later. In an alternative design, a flapper can be used that is held open for the initial insertion of the bottom hole assembly and is released to spring shut upon removal of the assembly. Multiple flappers or packers or other types of closure devices are envisioned to allow removal of the bottom hole assembly more than once and still retain blowout protection on each removal of the bottom hole assembly. A variety of applications are contemplated some of which are perforation, side tracking, fracturing, and gravel packing, to name a few examples.
