Publication number: 20240342362Abstract: Techniques are provided for identifying an infusion cassette of an infusion pump that are simple to implement yet sophisticated enough to convey pump parameter data to the infusion pump when the infusion cassette is inserted into a receptacle of the infusion pump. The infusion pump includes a pump that acts on tubing to pump fluid through the tubing and a receptacle configured to receive an infusion cassette. The tubing passes through the infusion cassette and engages the pump when the infusion cassette is fully inserted. A detection system identifies the type of infusion cassette and sets and/or limits infusion pump parameters based on the detected type of infusion cassette. The detection system includes sensors within the infusion pump that detect the presence/absence of holes or other types of markings (e.g., colored regions or textured areas) on the infusion cassette in order to determine the type of infusion cassette and associated pumping parameters.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 14, 2023Publication date: October 17, 2024Applicant: B. Braun Medical Inc.Inventors: Edwin Burnard, Hans Schmolk, Michael William Huk, Michael Robert Pavlovic, Vladislav Los, Elisha James Endres

Patent number: 12076524Abstract: An exemplary compounding system and method can include two pump heads for simultaneously drawing two different fluids from at least two separate input containers such that the at least two different fluids are mixed and distributed to an output container. The system can include a manifold that maintains separation of certain of the different fluids until after passing by a first pump and a second pump and/or additional pumps. A junction can be placed in the fluid line downstream of the first and second pumps and/or additional pumps such that all or some of the fluids are mixed prior to output to the output container. The method of using the system can include incorporating software that selects various fluids at certain times and sequences to ensure optimum efficiency and safety for the system, and can continue compounding actions even when an input supply container runs out or otherwise fails to supply a particular fluid/material.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2022Date of Patent: September 3, 2024Assignee: B. Braun Medical Inc.Inventors: Michael Y. Brown, Mariano Mumpower, Jake A. Cowperthwaite, Jamie Kendall, Jeremy C. Savage, Chet B. Larrow, Alex K. Flamm, Dave E. Hershey, Aaron S. Pearl, Benjamin R. Lane, Karl Konrad, Jr., Joel Bartholomew, Mike Janders, Edwin Burnard

Patent number: 10364914Abstract: The disclosed subject matter relates to a valve device that includes a valve member located within a housing in which the valve member's operation can be bypassed. For example, the valve device can include a bypass device that has an input structure, a motion conversion structure, and an output structure. The input structure can include a portion configured to resiliently deform if a valve opening input force is applied to the input structure in an input direction. The motion conversion structure can be configured to convert the valve opening input force into motion of the output structure in an output direction that is non-parallel to the input direction. The output structure can be configured to move the valve member (e.g., from a closed state to an opened state in order to bypass normal valve operation) if the motion conversion structure is displaced in the input direction. The valve device can be used in various manners, and is particularly suitable for use in a patient fluid delivery system.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2014Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: B. BRAUN MEDICAL INC.Inventors: Edwin Burnard, Murat Ozgu, Benjamin Loomis
