Abstract: A dialog facilitator for preserving the spatial and temporal context of a dialog composed of a plurality of postings. The postings are packaged into messages having extended header information which are sent and received using a conventional messaging system. The dialog facilitator retrieves messages from the conventional messaging system, and uses information contained in the messages to populate a posting and a posting summary. Each posting contains detail information and an identifier uniquely identifying the posting., and each posting summary contains the posting identifier, content description information, and referential information identifying a relationship between postings. The referential information identifies whether the posting is related to other postings in the dialog store. Related posting include a commonly assigned dialog identifier.

A broadcaster broadcasts the broadcast materials to a plurality of users, the broadcast material being divided into a plurality of segments. A user terminal receives the broadcast material from the broadcaster and retrieving supplemental materials related to said plurality of segments of said broadcast material. To retrieve the supplemental materials, the program data are provided to a data server, which provides parameters for the supplemental materials to the user terminal. The user terminal uses the parameters to retrieve supplemental materials from one or more databases. The user terminal plays the supplemental materials in conjunction with the broadcast material.

Abstract: A system and method of coordinating a visual display with audio advertisements broadcast over a communications network such as the Internet is provided. A run-time procedure in which the visual display is retrieved and concurrently displayed at about the time the audio advertisement is broadcast is described. In addition, a set-up procedure, in which scheduled broadcast times for the audio advertisements are captured and provided for use in scheduling the broadcasts of the corresponding visual displays, is also described. The system and method can be beneficially employed in other environments, such as the case in which a first audio, visual, or audiovisual segment or stream is coordinated with a predetermined second audio, visual, or audiovisual segment or stream, and a selected one of the first and second segments or streams includes or comprises advertising material.
