Patent number: 7564810Abstract: A power management scheme for use in a wireless device reduces the power consumption of the network interface module of the wireless device by selectively putting the network interface module into a low-power state for an idle time. The length of the idle time is calculated such that the amount of delayed traffic data accumulated is expected to be less than or equal to a pre-selected threshold when the network interface module is put in the low-power state for the calculated idle time. The amount of delayed traffic data as a function of the idle time is modeled using average inter-arrival and service rates that are derived from traffic statistics data.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2002Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Edwin Hernandez, Arun Ayyagari, Timothy M. Publication number: 20070141860Abstract: A connector (30) can include a housing (32), a plurality of magnets (14) within the housing used for data transfer and at least one alignment magnet (16 or 18) within the housing used for proper alignment and polarity. The connector can also include at least one magnetic induction circuit (52) coupled to at least one of the plurality of magnets. The plurality of magnets can include a plurality of inductor elements or micro-metric inductor elements. The magnetic induction circuit can be a magnetic induction circuit using Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying modulation. A connector (64) can further include an inductive coil (67) operating at a lower frequency than the at least one magnetic induction circuit. The inductive coil can enable contactless energy transfer from the connector to an energy storage device (69) operatively coupled to an electronic product (62).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2005Publication date: June 21, 2007Applicant: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Edwin Hernandez, James Tracy

Publication number: 20070112981Abstract: A removable data storage (100), for example a universal serial bus (USB) flash drive, that includes a data store (205), a user interface (110), and at least one logic device (220). In response to a correct personal identification number (PIN) being entered via the user interface, the logic device can permit access to data contained on the data store from a second device to which the removable data storage is connected. The user interface can include a display (135), such as a segmented display, and at least one button (125,130) which, when depressed, cycles through a plurality of user selectable characters (140) that are sequentially presented on the display. The user interface also can include a status indicator (115) that indicates for which of a plurality of sequential PIN character positions a character is being entered.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2005Publication date: May 17, 2007Inventor: Edwin Hernandez

Publication number: 20070045419Abstract: An imaging device (100) having an imaging system (102) that optically detects movement of an appendage (104), and a processor (200) that automatically translates the movement of the appendage to alphanumeric symbols (400) or graphical user interface navigation commands. The processor can automatically implement the alphanumeric symbols or navigation commands in an application (208). In addition, the processor can automatically identify a second alphanumeric symbol (502) that has a high statistical probability of following a first alphanumeric symbol (500). The processor also can detect a speed at which the appendage is moved and generate a motion parameter correlating to the detected speed. The processor can process the motion parameter to automatically translate the movement of the appendage. The processor can correlate the motion parameter to a user interface scroll speed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2005Publication date: March 1, 2007Inventors: Edwin Hernandez, Kenny Ardizzone

Publication number: 20050120119Abstract: A system and method for discovering and connecting to a preferred remote Bluetooth device by a local Bluetooth device. An inquiry scan cache and a page scan cache are maintained. The inquiry scan cache is updated by way of a periodic inquiry scan. The page scan cache is refreshed by way of an attempt to connect to the preferred remote Bluetooth device. Periodically, and more frequently than the periodic inquiry scan, a list of available remote Bluetooth devices is formed from entries in the inquiry scan cache concatenated with each entry in the page scan cache for which a page scan is successful. In one embodiment, the page scan cache holds a finite number of entries, and an expiration policy is applied to each added entry. In another embodiment, the inquiry scan cache is also updated when a remote Bluetooth device attempts to connect to the local Bluetooth device.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2003Publication date: June 2, 2005Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Vivek Bhanu, Siamak Poursabahian, Edwin Hernandez-Mondragon, John Archer, Lambert Green

Publication number: 20050118951Abstract: A system and method for enabling and implementing personal area networking on a local machine having one or more local Bluetooth devices. A set of interoperating data structures are employed in an implementation of a PAN driver, including device control blocks and connection control blocks, which comprise finite state machines. Also disclosed are a method and system for setting and advertising multiple PAN profile roles in a Bluetooth device.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2003Publication date: June 2, 2005Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Siamak Poursabahian, Vivek Bhanu, Edwin Hernandez-Mondragon, Arun Ayyagari, John Archer, Lambert Green, Gaurav Lochan

Publication number: 20050091357Abstract: A system and method for carrying out network and interface selections across multiple media is disclosed. The disclosed system facilitates automated network interface configuration decision-making that spans a set of networks supporting communications via differing media. A set of media specific modules associated with differing communications media acquire network interface status/capabilities information. A rules engine thereafter applies a designated network selection rule(s) to the acquired network interface status/capabilities information, and any other appropriate parameters attributable to either an interface or network, to select one or more networks and interfaces with which to establish/maintain a connection.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2003Publication date: April 28, 2005Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Anton Krantz, Warren Barkley, Dan Knudson, Florin Teodorescu, Mohammad Alam, Vivek Bhanu, Edwin Hernandez-Mondragon, Taroon Mandhana, Timothy Moore, Abhishek Abhishek

Publication number: 20050058099Abstract: A system for communication between a mobile node and a communications network is provided for use with a communications network having one or more communications network nodes that define a foreign agents and that communicate with the mobile node in a predefined region. The system includes a ghost-foreign agent that advertises a foreign agent so that the mobile node is aware of the foreign agent when the mobile node is located outside the predefined region. The system further includes a ghost-mobile node that signals the foreign agent in response to the foreign agent advertising and based upon a predicted future state of the mobile node.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2004Publication date: March 17, 2005Applicant: UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA RESEARCH FOUNDATION, INC.Inventors: Edwin Hernandez-Mondragon, Abdelsalam Helal
