  • Patent number: 6968568
Abstract: Broadcast information is classified in categories to facilitate user selection and filtration of the broadcast information which is processed for presentation to the user. The broadcast information is transmitted in the form of a meta frame and one or more category frames which are repeated in a continuous cycle. Meta frames and category frames are distinguished and identified by major and minor codes following a frame starting delimiter. The meta frame contains a description of each of the available categories, together with an identification of respective category major and minor codes, the frequency on which the respective category frame is transmitted if multiple frequencies are employed, and the relative position of the respective category frame within transmission cycle.

  • Patent number: 6469712
Abstract: A method and implementing computer system is provided in which sounds are projected or rendered in space surrounding a computer system to provide information concerning various aspects of information displayed on the computer system display screen. Computer system users are able to ascertain predetermined information relative to the displayed information, such as a relative scroll point in a lengthy context, by perceiving certain characteristics of the projected sounds, including the perceived location of the source of the projected sounds relative to a designated point of origin, such a user's head or the computer display screen.

  • Patent number: 6430707
Abstract: A client station on computer network uses an operating system such as JavaOS which is permanently stored at the server rather than on storage media at the client location. JavaOS is loaded and installed at the client upon bootup of the client. Java is an interpreted language; the source is available at the server and is downloaded as such. Upon the occurrence of a malfunction that causes the client to go off-line, i.e., disappear from the network, a dump image is sent to the server before the client reboots, so that the cause of failure can be determined. The dump image includes the contents of memory, including the JavaOS operating system, and the stack, threads, registers, and local/global variables, which can be analyzed at a source level. This image is sent to the server in formatted packets, by a path separate from that of the TCP/IP network protocol, since the client would not be functioning properly on the network.

  • Patent number: 6404442
Abstract: A method and implementing computer system is provided in which sounds are projected or rendered in space surrounding a computer system to provide information concerning various aspects of information displayed on the computer system display screen. Computer system users are able to ascertain predetermined information relative to the displayed information, such as a relative scroll point in a lengthy context, by perceiving certain characteristics of the projected sounds, including the perceived location of the source of the projected sounds relative to a designated point of origin, such a user's head or the computer display screen. The display screen is selectively scanned for the location of predetermined image types and sounds representative of the predetermined image types are projected in the space away from the computer system in a manner to aurally indicate the relative screen position of the predetermined image types on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 6357019
Abstract: The present invention involves a system that employs network loadable debugging agents which are capable of first failure support for software products. The present invention enables the user working with object-oriented programming systems, such as AWT (“Abstract Windowing Toolkit”) problems on the JavaOS operating system, to get an inside view of the system's graphics/messaging, etc., without having to run special builds of the system. It also allows the user to look into a problem on any network connected computer system running an object-oriented operating system, when the failure first occurs, without having to reload the system, reboot and recreate the problem.
