  • Patent number: 6305766
Abstract: A personal computer having a housing which is adapted for cooperation with ergonomically correct furniture. The housing has a parallelepiped configuration, with the two major faces forming the front and back of the parallelepiped. The disk drive and/or CDRom player and controls for the personal computer are disposed on the front of the major face adjacent to top of the housing. Input/output ports for connection with the monitor, keyboard, etc., are disposed on the side of the housing. A work station in which a personal computer can be used is provided with a support structure for supporting the computer in an opening at a level in which part of the computer is disposed above the level of the work surface and part is disposed below the level of the work surface.

  • Patent number: 6119603
Abstract: A work surface system provides ergonomic benefits to traditional office environments in a retro fit fashion. The work surface system includes a work surface and a support for supporting the work surface at an angle with respect to horizontal. The work surface provides support for the user's arms while using a keyboard or mouse. The work surface can be smaller than the surface on which the work surface system rests. The angle of the work surface can be adjusted if desired, and the work surface also can be mounted on the support in a pivoting fashion to permit the work surface to be tipped up to permit access to a storage space beneath the work surface if desired. The work surface can include a separately adjustable keyboard support.

  • Patent number: 5555819
Abstract: An adjustment mechanism for a tiltable work surface. The adjustment mechanism includes an adjustment bar having notched flanges. The notches are selectively engageable with pins projecting from a support to selectively fix the work surface at a desired degree of tilt. In this way, the user can easily and quickly adjust the tilt angle of the work surface by simply lifting up on, and then releasing, the adjustment bar to selectively engage the desired pair of notches with the pins.

  • Patent number: 5074221
Abstract: A lift device for adjusting the angular position of a worksurface such as a desk top lying thereon includes a glide sheet (103) upon which the edges of hinged fulcrum plates (100) rest. Protruding pivot pins (120) abut against the edges of the plates and are moved in curved guide slots (131) by means of a lift mechanism (1). The mechanism includes scissors arms (110) which move in accordion-like fashion by operating a lever arm (145). A translation bar (150) interconnects the scissors arms and the lever arm (145). A locking mechanism (160) actuable by pressure-release of a handle (142) may be provided to latch the lever arm in the desired position. The mechanism may be conveniently contained in a housing (9), to provide a drop-in assembly (5) for installation in a desk top or worksurface support system. As an alternative to the manually-operated lever arm, an electric motor (180) may be provided to actuate the scissors arms (110).

  • Patent number: 4781126
Abstract: An adjustable desk-top assembly is disclosed having upper, lower, and inner side panels, the upper and lower panels being spaced apart for forming a compartmentalized enclosure. The desk-top has an adjustable work surface capable of assuming a slope and a centralized cut-out portion therein for extending in a semi-circle around the user of the desk. The inner or door panels, are releasably secured and can be removed for accommodating any of a number of suitable components. The slope imparted to the work surface can be adjusted to an optimum level for the particular task and, by imparting greater slope and covering the components therein, a security measure is also provided.
