Abstract: This invention relates to vaccines, specifically to the use of recombinant DNA technology to immunize against self proteins and to induce antibody against self protein in mammals. A process is described in which DNA sequences encoding a microbial gene product and a self gene protein are joined and expressed by means of a suitable DNA vector and a non-pathogenic microbial strain. The present invention further relates to the isolation and purification of a fusion peptide combining the non-toxic B subunit of an enterotoxigenic strain of E. coli (LTB) with the carboxyl terminal peptide (CTP) of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), as well as to the use of this fusion protein for immunological prophylaxis and therapy.
