  • Patent number: 4415593
Abstract: The present invention relates to chewing gum compositions whose elastomeric component in the chewing gum base employed in formulating said chewing gum compositions comprises as an essential ingredient a polyisoprene obtained from naturally-occurring guayule rubber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 28, 1982
Date of Patent: November 15, 1983
    Assignee: Warner Lambert Company
Inventors: Michael Glass, Edwin R. Koch, Vincent Corsello
  • Patent number: 4387108
Abstract: A non-adhesive chewing gum base composition demonstrates reduced adhesion, and improved chewing satisfaction, and consists essentially of an elastomer, at least one emulsifier including lecithin, lecithin derivatives, or mixtures thereof in an amount of from 0.5% to 6.0%, an elastomer solvent including the glyceryl ester of partially hydrogenated wood rosin, the latter present in an amount of from about 2.5% to about 8%, as well as one or more mineral adjuvants, a non-toxic vinyl polymer and at least one oleaginous plasticizer. Preferably, the wood rosin elastomer solvent is present in an amount ranging from 2.5 to 5%.A method for preparing the present chewing gum base composition is also disclosed, which comprises mixing the ingredients of the base composition in one step. Preferably, the elastomer is charged first, and subject to high shear, after which the remaining components are added and shearing is continued.

  • Patent number: 4357355
Abstract: A non-adhesive bubble gum base composition includes a high molecular weight vinyl polymer such as polyvinyl acetate or polyvinyl alcohol, together with an emulsifier, in combination with ingredients such as an elastomer, an oleaginous plasticizer, an elastomer solvent, mineral adjuvants, fatty acids, and others. The emulsifier is preferably present in an amount with respect to the non-toxic vinyl polymer ranging from about 5 to 75% by weight. A method for the preparation of the bubble gum base composition is also disclosed which comprises preparing a homogeneous premixture of the non-toxic vinyl polymer and the emulsifier prior to combining non-toxic vinyl polymer with the remainder of the ingredients of the base composition. The base compositions prepared in accordance with the present invention are less sticky, and show improved film forming and bubble blowing capabilities.

  • Patent number: 4187320
Abstract: A two-stage process for the preparation of a chewing gum base utilizing solid elastomer is described wherein the solid elastomer is initially subjected to high intensity mixing under high shear conditions to masticate the solid until a substantially uniform, lump-free mass is obtained; followed by the step-wise addition of an elastomer solvent and an oleaginous plasticizer with continuous high intensity mixing until a substantially molten, uniform mass is obtained. In the second stage of the process, the remaining chewing gum base ingredients are added, step-wise, with continuous high intensity mixing until a uniform blend of ingredients is obtained. The second stage ingredients, which may include a non-toxic vinyl polymer, a hydrophobic plasticizer, additional oleaginous plasticizer and an emulsifier, are added step-wise in a sequence determined by decreasing order of viscosity. In a modification of the process, the hydrophobic plasticizer or emulsifier may be added with the stage one ingredients.
