  • Patent number: 10498368
Abstract: A client-side FEC selection system involves pre-generating FEC data for a plurality of media segment streams based on a number of FEC configuration settings at a server. Metadata relative to the FEC data may be provided to a client device via appropriate manifest files or other mechanisms, whereupon the client device is operative to select and request a suitable FEC data fragment responsive to monitoring various network characteristics.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 2, 2015
Date of Patent: December 3, 2019
    Assignee: MK Systems USA Inc.
    Inventors: Edwin Salomons, Alan Bishop
  • Publication number: 20190028524
Abstract: A system and method for recording ABR content at a client recording device. A variety of recording service selection mechanisms may be applied at the client side based on network bandwidth conditions and other criteria for selecting ABR content fragments encoded at suitable bitrate quality levels to be downloaded for recording at the client recording device. One or more post-recording optimization schemes may also be applied in one arrangement with respect to, for example, the client recording device's media storage space.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 10015547
Abstract: A method of assisting selection of a TV channel in a linear IPTV service where a prompt to switch a TV channel to another TV channel is generated based on measures indicative of instantaneous relevance of TV programs concurrently broadcast in a plurality of linear TV channels.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 6714594
Abstract: The process of compressing video requires the calculation of a variety data that are used in the process of compression. The invention exploits some or all of these data for purposes of content detection. For example, these data may be leveraged for purposes of commercial detection. The luminance, motion vector field, residual values, quantizer, bit rate, etc. may all be used either directly or in combination, as signatures of content. A process for content detection may employ one or more features as indicators of the start and/or end of a sequence containing a particular type of content and other features as verifiers of the type of content bounded by these start/end indicators. The features may be combined and/or refined to produce higher-level feature data with good computational economy and content-classification utility.
