  • Publication number: 20090151963
Abstract: In the prevention of the spread of fires and for directly fighting fires, a cross-linked, water-swellable additive polymer in a vegetable oil dispersion is added to firefighting water. The additive has the properties of absorbing large quantities of water, high viscosity for adherence to vertical and horizontal surfaces, and retention of sufficient fluidity to be educted in standard firefighting equipment. The method of adding this additive to the firefighting water by eduction, pumping, or batch addition to the source water is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5935425
Abstract: A centrifuge such as a continuous solid bowl centrifuge, for example, includes a rotatable bowl for receiving a slurry, and defines a zone in which the slurry is accelerated. The centrifuge includes a device such as a slurry feed tube for delivering slurry to the acceleration zone and a device for delivering a plurality of individual streams of flocculant solution coterminating with the slurry delivery device in order to uniformly distribute flocculant solution to the slurry.

  • Patent number: 5897012
Abstract: A collapsible intermediate bulk container for liquid or freely flowable solid materials includes either a fabric outer/film liner bag or a bag of fabric reinforced elastomer. The bag is supported by a collapsible rigid frame which gradually collapses as the bag is emptied. The collapsible rigid frame includes a pallet-base portion that has an upper surface that is sloped to a center drainage point to facilitate complete emptying. The pallet-base portion contains a valve arrangement fixed to either the fabric outer bag (in the film-lined configuration) or to the reinforced fabric bag, at the center drainage point. The collapsed frame provides a compact return package. Either bag configuration may be reused or replaced in whole or in part.

  • Patent number: 5222511
Abstract: An apparatus for removing dust-containing or hazardous material from bags includes a vertical bag feeding chute having one or more vertically disposed knife blades fixed (no moving mechanical parts) in the chute to slice open the bag as it falls through the chute. The sliced bag is caught in a downwardly angled perforated basket disposed below the bag feeding chute where an operator operating through a glove box removes solid material from the interior of the sliced bag after most of the bag contents have fallen through the perforated receiving basket and into a mixing tank. The apparatus is particularly useful for debagging acrylamide monomer in the production of polyacrylamide homopolymers and copolymers.

  • Patent number: 5185409
Abstract: A process for preparing high molecular weight water soluble polymer gels having relatively narrow molecular weight distributions is disclosed. An aqueous reaction mixture comprising a solution of a water soluble vinyl monomer and a suitable catalyst system is polymerized in a reactor comprising a tube or bag of an oxygen-impermeable film in the substantial absence of oxygen.
