  • Patent number: 9896633
Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing or eliminating corrosion of components of a reactor system, including a supercritical water gasification system, are described. The reactor system may include a reactor vessel configured to receive a reactor fluid through a reactor fluid inlet and a product source fluid corrosive to portions of the reactor system through a product source fluid inlet. The product source fluid may react with the reactor fluid to produce one or more reaction products, such as a fuel gas. The product source fluid inlet may be arranged within the reactor fluid inlet such that the product source fluid entering the reactor vessel is encased by a fluid conduit formed by the flow of reactor fluid entering the reactor vessel. The layer may operate to reduce corrosion by forming a barrier between the product source fluid and the surface of the reactor fluid inlet and/or the reactor vessel.

  • Publication number: 20170001406
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a general purpose, low-cost, highly efficient, biodegradable multi-layer, passive thermal insulator material that can be used for packaging in any application where tight temperature tolerance is required for extended periods. The material comprises inner layers between two outer layers. The outer layers can be themselves multiple layers that may provide strength and moisture protection to the structure. The inner layers can comprise a series of alternating courses of continuous material and discontinuous material containing gaps that can form pockets where the continuous layers are arranged to provide a barrier to seal a gas in the pockets in the discontinuous material.

  • Patent number: 6860030
Abstract: A control system for measuring a gap in an apparatus for pressing a traveling paper web as the paper web travels through the gap accompanied by at least one belt or felt, the apparatus including a press apparatus and a support surface defining a gap therebetween. A frame is provided for moveably supporting the press apparatus. An actuator is operatively disposed between the frame and press apparatus for selectively moving the press apparatus toward and away from the support to control the gap size. A transducer is mounted in either the press apparatus or support for producing a signal indicative of the pressure on the paper web as the paper web, belt and felt pass through the gap beneath the transducer. A controller is operatively linked with the transducer for receiving the signal, determining the measure of the gap as a function of the pressure, and causing the actuator to selectively move the press apparatus to control the gap size.

  • Patent number: 6387218
Abstract: A seal used in an air press for dewatering a traveling paper web in a paper-making machine includes a support roll having a cylindrical surface, a belt and felt for supporting the paper web on either side thereof, an arm for mounting the seal, a seal body having a curved outer surface contour for substantially conforming to the curve of the cylindrical surface of the support roll, and an inner surface adjacent to the arm. A leading edge surface intersects with the curved outer surface, the leading edge surface defines the initial engagement with the traveling belt when in an operating position. A trailing edge surface intersects with the curved outer surface. The trailing edge surface defines, with the leading edge surface, the upstream and downstream bounds of the extended nip of the curved outer surface contour of the seal body over the support.

  • Patent number: 6368458
Abstract: A calender press for use in a paper-making machine includes a top roll positioned adjacent to a nip and rotatable about a longitudinal axis thereof. The top roll has a length and circumferential perimeter. The length extends in the direction of and is longer than the width of the fiber web. The top roll is thermally compensated in a plurality of thermal zones which are adjacent to each other across the length of the top roll, whereby the perimeter of the top roll may be adjusted in a locally adjustable manner toward and away from the nip. A bottom roll is positioned adjacent to the top roll and defines the nip with the top roll. The bottom roll is rotatable about a longitudinal axis thereof and has a length and circumferential perimeter. The length extends in the direction of and is longer than the width of the fiber web. The perimeter is smaller at each longitudinal end of the bottom roll and larger at approximately a midpoint between the longitudinal ends, thereby defining a crowned bottom roll.
