  • Patent number: 7706814
Abstract: The method generates a location estimate for a mobile station in a wireless communications network. The method includes receiving first measurement data relating to at least one radio link between the mobile station and a first site, and provides a first distance estimate of the mobile station from the first site based on the first measurement data. Second measurement data is received, relating to at least one radio link between the mobile station and a second site and provides a second distance estimate of the mobile station from the second site. First and second intersection points are determined between a circle centered at the first site of a radius corresponding to the first distance estimate, and a circle centered at the second site of the radius corresponding to the second distance estimate. The first and second intersection points lie on opposite sides of a line passing through the first and second sites.

  • Patent number: 7225266
Abstract: According to the present invention the use of a delayed acknowledgment procedure of TCP in a communication network system arranged to transport TCP/IP packets is controlled. A burstiness of received TCP packets transmitted in the communication network system from an entity to a device is monitored and it is decided whether the monitored burstiness meets a predefined condition. On the basis of the decision result the delayed acknowledgment procedure is enabled or disabled.

Abstract: A method of generating a location estimate for a mobile station in a wireless communications network. The method includes receiving first measurement data relating to at least one radio link between the mobile station and a first site and using said first measurement data in a location calculation method with radio network data to provide a first preliminary location estimate. The method also includes receiving second measurement data relating to at least one radio link between the mobile station and a second site and using in the location calculation method with radio network data to provide a second preliminary location estimate. The method further includes determining the location estimate as the weighted mass center of the first and second preliminary location estimates.

  • Publication number: 20050174952
Abstract: The present invention describes a method and system for reserving transport resources in a communication network, wherein transport resources have to be reserved for data transmissions. The present invention can be used in any mobile or wireline network if there exists some resources that should be reserved and the reservation takes time. The solution for reserving resources described in the present invention can be used to trigger resource reservation and/or a setup of a resource, if the transport protocol session setup messages can be distinguished from other messages. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the need of resources is predicted by monitoring the TCP packets. The session level setup messages indicate the forthcoming arrival of data and trigger the resource allocation.

  • Publication number: 20050063304
Abstract: The present invention describes a method, network node and a system for controlling network resources for non real-time data connections in a mobile communication network. Further, the present describes an adaptive inactivity timer, which takes into account the history of the current traffic flow and the nature of the NRT traffic. Traffic must be measured in the mobile communication network for each NRT traffic flow to which the adaptive inactivity timer is used. Specially, the adaptive inactivity timer for the NRT bearers in the WCDMA networks (UTRAN, IP RAN) is concerned. The different NRT traffic protocols, e.g. the TCP, have known transport patterns. The releasing of different resources in mobile communication network can be made dependent of the traffic and on the phase of the transmission. For example, some TCP/IP traffic has different transmission pattern than the WTP has, and further the TCP/IP has different traffic patters in the beginning of the transmission and after a while.

  • Publication number: 20050044130
Abstract: The invention relates to a radio system and a method for optimizing resources in a radio system. The method comprises: transferring transport network information about traffic in a transport network of the radio system to a radio network of the radio system, the transport network connecting network elements of the radio network and the radio network to a core network of the radio system; a serving network element of the radio network routing a telecommunications connection of user equipment via the serving network element to the core network. The method further comprises adjusting between the serving network element and the user equipment the telecommunications connection of the user equipment, based on the transport network information.

  • Publication number: 20050036462
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method and system for avoiding unnecessary handovers, relocations and/or anchoring during packet calls in a wireless telecommunication system. Data to be sent to a mobile terminal is stored in a data buffer. The data is sent to the mobile terminal when the amount of data in the buffer exceeds a predetermined threshold value. When a relocation or anchoring request is received, relocation or anchoring is performed only if one or more conditions are fulfilled. The conditions are preferably timers or adaptive thresholds. In a preferred embodiment, anchoring is performed only if a first timer has expired and relocation is performed only if the first and the second timers have both expired. When a handover is done, it triggers either anchoring or relocation. Therefore, the present invention lowers the number of handovers needed, and thus the number of anchoring and relocation cases.
