  • Patent number: 4408770
Abstract: A compound oil ring comprises flat rings and a tangential expander provided therebetween. The tangential expander comprises an annular integrally bent serpentine spring having vertically extending webs and horizontally extending flanges terminating in vertically extending bearing shoulders. Each vertically extending flange is bent so as to form at least one bend extending into the interior of the compound oil ring.

  • Patent number: 4175758
Abstract: The joint of the expander is formed by tooth-like portions of the side flanges of a U-shaped spring, bent inward and coiled into a ring. The device comprises a measuring gear which reels off the sinuous profiled spring from a spiral. The gear has a radial slot receiving the reciprocating cutters acting in conjunction with bending punches which bend the cut-off tooth-like ends of the spring, locked into a joint.

  • Patent number: 4173878
Abstract: According to the claimed method a round wire is first flattened and then formed into a serpentine flat spring. The segment portions of this spring are bent up in the form of thrust shoulders and calibrated for height. The shaped spring is coiled into a spiral on a mandrel, compressed and heat-treated before cutting it into individual tangential expanders.

  • Patent number: 4136718
Abstract: In an apparatus, synchronous rotation of a driven drum supporting mandrel pins and of two plates rotating in the same direction is effected. The plates support bending rods to bend rod stock on either side about successively arranged pins. The portion of the stock being bent and the preceding bent portion are securely urged against respective pins by means of a pair of spring-loaded shoes.
