  • Patent number: 7021798
Abstract: The invention relates to mirrors for use in confined spaces which are subject to being covered by fluids and debris, principally dental mirrors, for use by dentists and similar medical professionals. The mirror assembly includes a head portion and a handle portion. The head portion includes a housing with a rotor assembly and a rotor drive means. In accordance with the invention, a secondary member has a reflective surface. The mirror assembly includes attachment means for removably attaching the secondary member with respect to the rotor assembly so that the reflective surface can be replaced when degraded. In use, the rotor drive means spins the rotor assembly and with it the secondary member to remove fluids and debris that may fall on the reflective surface so that vision when using the reflective surface is not impaired by such fluids or debris. Advantageously the attachment means include magnetic components although mechanical attachment means may also be used.

  • Patent number: 6991356
Abstract: A light source which may be used as part of a dental curing lamp is comprised of at least one, and preferably a plurality, of LEDs. To increase the efficiency of the light output the LEDs are encapsulated in a beam converger including an extractor portion and a collimator portion. Light rays leaving the collimator portion have an angle which matches the entrance angle input requirements of an associated light guide. In another aspect, cooling of LEDs is accomplished by reservoirs located in a hand piece and in a base station. In another aspect of the invention, cooling is achieved by use of a heat pipe and a cooling jacket. The cooling jacket may contain a material having a high latent heat of fusion at a phase change temperature suitable for cooling the LEDs.

  • Patent number: 6193510
Abstract: A curing light for dental filling materials is used in combination with a light guide that bears a unique identifying code. A code reader in the nose cone of the curing light compares the code on the light guide with stored codes. If the code is a new code, a timer is started and provides a time out signal after expiry of a predetermined time representing the working time of the light guide. The time out signal may deactivate the light so that it cannot be used again until a new tip is inserted.

  • Patent number: 5803729
Abstract: A light curing gun for dental filling material includes a conical light concentrator element and a water filed chamber between the light source and the concentrator element. The water increases the collection of light as well as cooling the concentrator and filtering out light in the infrared portion of the spectrum. A water cooling jacket may also be provided around the light source and may be coupled to the water window so that water can be circulated through both the window and the water jacket.
