  • Patent number: 4402418
Abstract: This invention relates to a tamperproof package which includes a thermoplastic closure for fitment to a container which has a threaded neck portion and an outwardly extending annular flange adjacent but beneath the threaded neck portion. The thermoplastic closure features an annular band which is attached to the lowermost extent of the closure sidewall by way of a plurality of spaced-apart frangible ribs. Pendantly attached to the lower portion of the annular band is a plurality of spaced-apart tabs. These tabs are inwardly foldable so that a tab portion will be in a position of interference with the container annular flange when the closure is fitted to the container. This interference prevents removal of the closure from the container unless there is fracture of the frangible ribs. Rib fracture indicates that the closure has been tampered with by removal or attempted removal of the closure.

  • Patent number: 4382521
Abstract: A thermoplastic closure suitable for fitment to a threaded container neck is disclosed. The closure has a top wall with an annular sidewall depending therefrom. To provide a gas-tight seal between the closure and the container, there is provided a gas-tight sealing system above the closure thread. About the inside surface of the annular sidewall is an extended closure thread which, due to its extent, requires the user to make two turning motions to achieve removal of the closure from the container. By requiring two turning motions, sufficient time is provided for venting of any pressurized gas from the container to the atmosphere. This venting can be facilitated by the utilization of any conventional venting means.

  • Patent number: 4369889
Abstract: A thermoplastic closure for fitment to a container for packaging product capable of producing internal container pressure, e.g., carbonated beverages, is disclosed. The closure comprises a top wall and an annular sidewall downwardly depending from the top wall. A closure thread on the inside surface of the sidewall is provided for cooperation with the container neck thread to achieve fitment of the closure to the container. A sealing system adjacent the top wall of the closure provides sealing of the closure to the container. Venting structure is provided on either the closure or the container or both for venting of pressurized gas from the container upon loss of the seal when the closure is rotated to remove it from the container. A heat-shrinkable tamper-indicating means is attached to the lowermost edge of the sidewall of the closure. Application of heat to the tamper-indicating means causes it to shrink towards the container and to a point of interference with a container flange.
