  • Patent number: 6543580
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying a lubricant to an advancing yarn, to facilitate the further processing of the yarn, and wherein the lubricant is composed of a plurality of components such as an emulsion of water and oil. The apparatus includes separate containers for the components of the lubricant, and a feed device for combining and mixing the components in a mixing chamber. The feed device also includes a pump for delivering the resulting lubricant to a wetting device which applies a metered quantity of the lubricant to the yarn. Provision is also made for maintaining a desired mixing ratio of the components of the lubricant.

  • Patent number: 6315537
Abstract: The invention relates to a spin pump for conveying a liquid polymer melt. To drive the conveying means enclosed in the pump housing, a drive shaft is provided, which extends through the pump housing in a bearing bore, and which comprises an external end for connecting to a drive. To seal the outward extending drive shaft, a cooling sleeve is employed which connects in a pressure tight fashion to the pump housing. The cooling sleeve surrounds the drive shaft with a narrow gap therebetween, and the outer surface of the cooling sleeve is cooled by a coolant for increasing the viscosity of the polymer melt which enters the gap between the drive shaft and the cooling sleeve. With an increased viscosity, the melt acts to seal the gap without interfering with the rotation of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 6305831
Abstract: An apparatus for mixing and advancing a polymer melt, which includes a mixer and a conveying device. The mixer comprises a tubular mixing shaft (outer shaft) and an inner mixing shaft (inner shaft). The tubular outer shaft is arranged in surrounding relationship with the inner mixing shaft. Both mixing shafts extend in cantilever fashion into a mixing chamber, and a passageway is formed at the front end between the mixing chamber wall and the free end of the outer shaft, so that the mixing chamber is divided into an inner mixing chamber (inner chamber) and an outer mixing chamber (outer chamber), which are interconnected via the passageway. A melt inlet and a melt outlet are arranged in such a manner that the melt flow advances through the inner chamber and the outer chamber in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 6257804
Abstract: A powder metering apparatus for making available a powder, in particular for powder coating, and which comprises a metering pump with a rotatably driven metering disk arranged between two lateral plates. The metering pump includes an inlet, through which it receives a powder-air mixture, and an outlet that connects via a suction tube to an injector pump. From the outlet, the powder-air mixture conveyed by means of the metering disk to the outlet is sucked out by a vacuum flow that is generated in the injector pump and enters the metering pump via a suction inlet opening, and the powder-air mixture is then supplied to a consumer.

  • Patent number: 5902531
Abstract: An apparatus and method for melt spinning polymeric yarns, wherein a main melt flow is generated by an extruder and supplied to a spin head. The spin head is enclosed in a heated spinning beam and comprises a mixer, a distributor pump and a plurality of spinnerets. A feed device generates a secondary flow which is supplied to the main melt flow for the purpose of additive admixture. The secondary flow and the main melt flow are combined inside the spinning beam.

  • Patent number: 5637331
Abstract: A spin system for thermoplastic yarns is provided with a melt line, in which the main flow of the melt is transported to a distributor pump. The distributor pump comprises several individual pumps, which divide the main melt flow into several partial flows. Each partial melt flow is supplied to a spinneret. Arranged on one of the driven shafts of the pump are mixing elements. The main melt flow is supplied to the pump via a chamber, in which these mixing elements are arranged.

  • Patent number: 4711647
Abstract: A process and apparatus for degassing high-boiling liquids, especially polymer melts and solutions, to remove low-boiling liquids and gases as impurities by feeding the polymer melt or similar high-boiling liquid under expansion into the feed chamber of a gear wheel pump to flow downwardly and only partially fill this feed chamber, preferably so as to form a thin layer or pool of the melt atop the upper crown surfaces of the gear wheels. The impurities are withdrawn separately through a suction outlet and the liquid level of the melt is preset and maintained by suitable regulating apparatus adapted to control the speed of the gear wheels and/or the speed at which melt is delivered into the pump feed chamber.
