  • Patent number: 6921129
Abstract: The invention relates to a vehicle, in particular a station wagon, having a rear loading space which has a floor trough and having an additional seat which is arranged foldably in the rear loading space and has a pivotably held seat and backrest part, the rear sides of which, in the folded-over not-in-use position of the additional seat, form a flat loading floor which covers the floor trough. In order to realize a footrest for the vehicle occupant sitting on the additional seat counter to the direction of travel, a covering module is inserted into the floor trough, said covering module having a self-supporting, flat plate which is used for the footrest and a strip-shaped, narrow limb which is angled on one longitudinal side of the plate. The plate is supported at the edges at a distance from the bottom of the floor trough, and the limb extends vertically until it reaches or is close to the front edge of the seat part of the additional seat.

  • Patent number: 6873892
Abstract: A method for dynamic adaptation of the support, in particular the lateral support, of a person seated on a vehicle seat includes using an adaptation system, which is integrated in the vehicle seat, to determine the adaptation taking into account the current vehicle velocity. In order to compensate for the inherent inertia of the adaptation system, prediction of the adaptation is performed from stored data over the current road course, onto which data the current vehicle data are projected. The adaptation system is actuated taking into account the adaptation time inherent in the system in such a way that, when the event requiring the adaptation occurs, preferably when a bend is traveled through, at least one adaptation presetting is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5810385
Abstract: The invention relates to a collision-protection system for passengers of motor vehicles. In a manner which is known in principle, an airbag is automatically inflated in the event of an accident. In order to control the direction and speed of expansion, the airbag is wholly or partially encased by a tough, plastically deformable film, which is overstretched and torn open as the airbag is inflated.

  • Patent number: 5135255
Abstract: A receptacle arrangement for an air bag which protects a vehicle occupant from an impact onto parts of the vehicle interior, has a covering which is fixed to a base plate and covers an air bag container. The covering folds out along a hinge axis of a hinge in the edge region of the air bag container during the unfolding of the air bag, after which it exposes a container aperture for the passage of the bag fabric into an inflated position in front of the vehicle occupant. The covering has, in addition to the first hinge, two further hinges which bound the first hinge on both sides, are approximately perpendicular thereto and have a clearance from the lateral edges of the covering. Thereby, two lateral covering flaps are formed which subdivide the swivellable covering.

  • Patent number: 5048863
Abstract: An anti-collision cushion is disclosed for the occupants of a motor vehicle. Known anti-collision cushions are constructed with a central part which is connected to two side parts of equal size. A tearing fold which reduces the volume capacity, and which is formed by a rip seam, is provided on the surface of the central part. In the deployment phase an expansion occurs with high velocities in the region of the side parts, which may result in injuries to the occupant in some circumstances. In the novel anti-collision cushion the rip seams connect the connecting seams which are contiguous in the region of the tearing fold between the central part and the side parts. A reduction of the expansion and of the expansion velocity, particularly in the region of the side parts, is thereby achieved.

  • Patent number: 4984651
Abstract: A passenger restraint system for motor vehicles is equipped with a safety belt, a belt tensioner, an inflatable airbag and with a switch member which detects the functional position of the safety belt and which is arranged in a belt lock of the safety belt. Activation of the airbag and of the belt tensioner takes place in dependence on the functional position of the safety belt. In order to reduce the risk of injury by the safety belt at medium speeds during the operative period of the airbag, an activatable belt-clamping device on the belt lock and an activatable belt pull-out detent for the shoulder belt are provided. In the presence of a second threshold signal indicating a moderate to serious injury, the airbag is released, the belt-clamping device is arrested. Additionally, the belt pull-out detent is released during the operative period of the airbag.

  • Patent number: 4840397
Abstract: A restraint device for the occupants of motor vehicles is described in which part of the wall of an airbag is designed as a filter. The filter has the keeps the particles released on ignition of the driving gas generator away from the internal space of the motor vehicle. The filter has a very high tear resistance so that the pores of the filter do not increase under load which would case the filter effect to decrease. A filter weave of aramid fibers in 2/1 twill weave with 24 threads per cm in the warp and 21 threads in the weft, the threads having a strength of dtex 250.times.2 Nm 40/2 is particularly advantageous.

  • Patent number: 4726438
Abstract: A foot-supporting body in a motor vehicle is provided which is capable of supporting both feet of a passenger while reducing the intrusion depth, reducing the change in intrusion speed and performing deformation work. The foot-supporting body is made as a pure hard-foam moulded body which--arranged on the passenger/driver side of the end wall--extends beyond the left-hand foot-placement area at least as far as the area covered by the brake pedal. The inherent rigidity of the foot-supporting body, as viewed in the loading direction, which can be permanently deformed, is below that of the allocated area of the end wall. Polystyrene--or polyurethane--foamed plastic, with a lower volumetric-weight limit of about 20 g/dm.sup.3 is preferably used as the moulded body material in certain exemplary embodiments.
